Lindsay is on the money there Dennis. 4 per licence in the Pilbara, with a maximum of 2 ornates or reds in that bag. Boat limit of 8.

hey stall... i know the onslow sun chalete's are full, but noha is staying at the caravan park in their chalete accom...

here is some phone numbers for you to ring and check if they have room....

Onslow Mackeral Motel, their number is 91846586 and at this stage they have vacancies.  Also there is the Ocean View Caravan park who have self contained accom. their number is 91846053. We are all within a couple of minutes walking distance.

also, maybe a pm to noha, as there may be room with the crew in his chalete...emphasis on may!!!

will sleep in a tent ! but just the fact of costs getting the boat up there ! so if there is anybody who hasn't got transport or boat who would like to do it on the cheap I certainly am available ( missus spending most of the money going to Tassie with the rug rats ) but I always keep a little ASIDE for times just like this ! or new fishing gear! just sounds like a good op to get to know more mad keen fisho's!!!!!!!!

maybe give them a ring, and see if there is space available..from memory its only $65 anigh twinshare at the caravan park chalets, and then $10 per person thereafter up to 6 people... if they have room, maybe post up your looking for some people to go up with... go from there

So Staal, or anyone else for that matter, if you have a boat and a crew your more than welcome to come up and join us. You just need to book some accomadation and get yourselves up there.

earlier and we all can get there in a LOOOOONNNNGGGGG day of driving? Say 4am to maybe 8/10pm the same day? Too long for the older peoples towing I reackon........Maxy.......

Luke and dennis are leaving Friday the 13th early morning, arriving on sat past noon. NOHA and nealz are going up earlier to recon. Max are you going up with them?

I am departing sat 14, arriving sun morning at 4h35 at the onslow turnoff. pick up and get straight into it.

after 6 days of fishing,

we all depart saturday, arrive perth sat or sunday depending who is pushing through.

that's it as far as i understand, please correct me if i have something wrong.

all correct, except dennis and co, will be staying on till the thursday after we leave....

For referrence, here are the practical tide predictions for thevenard island off BOM

Sun 15 - high 0754 (2.13m) low 1509 (0.91m)
Mon 16 - high 0844 (2.19m) low 1558 (0.79m)
Tue 17 - high 0928 (2.26m) low 1638 (0.69m)
Wed 18 - high 1009 (2.32m) low 1714 (0.61m)
Thu 19 - high 1047 (2.37m) full moon
Fri 20 - high 1126 (2.40m) low 1817 (0.54m)
Sat 21 - high 1203 (2.40m) low 1848 (0.54m)

If you are chasing pelagics, it looks like the best days are the start of the week. In my limited experience the full moon will put the mackerel off.

The tides have lined up perfect for those that want to pop for GTs though. About 3-4 hours before the high is the prime time. This coupled with a rising sun and a 2 meter difference between high and low means one cannot hope for better. (Except the 'w' word, but that is a very temperamental thing so I won't say anything). However, once the tide slows down and turns, i'd expect it to be alot less productive, unless the bait and fusiliers are in.

The turn of the tide though will mean time to bottom bash/jig/driftbait. A very low low at the end of the day will mean we can top days off by grabbing crays from the deeper reefs which will be more accessible with the lower water mark.

p.s when trolling over the reefs for trout and everything else ,,,long long leaders are the go..i dont go below 80 lb .with a good joiner knot so you can wind the leader onto the reel.last trip 120 lb snider was the go to leader with up to 5 metres of it .we certainly had to turn around more than once to drag fish out of holes .other times it was just nice to get your lure back.with up to 5 lures lost per day the heavy leader can cut the cost

The mackerel have shut down here coz of the Coral Spawn, there all hiding in the shoals at the moment (as they do this time of year).  Just wasting time going on the westside for them, might have fired up a bit by the time you guys get up here though.

so you think for us guys coming up we wont have much chance on the mackies adam? was hoping to get atleast 1

Head into the gulf (shoals) and berley up and send out free floaters, theres heaps in there at the moment.  You will be wasting your time trolling divers on the west side for macks at the moment.  Otherwise try either side of the islands in the shallows, saw 3 free diving in 12m the other day.

well, apparently jay has been getting into his jigging lately...

G'day Sherbs, use whatever weights you need to get to the bottom.. usually in the depths up here I use between 90-150g and sometimes up to 200g if you're out wide and there's a bit of current.

Colours I've found to be the best are pink, black/dark gray and blue... or blue/pink combination.

gonna take my arsenal of jigs, Goto use them some time. Jig fest 08! AND yes 17 days till Luke and Sherbs hear a real person snore at night!   

Oh and how heavy should our sinkers be? Goto get some

shabby, had some nice pan fried Dhui tonight for dinner basted with garlic(fresh Italian variety),olive oil,fresh Italian parsley,lemon juice,salt n pepper with a garden salad. I can't go to bed yet as I'm still full! It was so nice. Would love some cray and oysters and some other fish like a trout(coral) or a red emp. maybe? And to wash it all down some cold beer and great company. 16 days and --mins to go.......Maxy.......

this is the fisheries wording,

then under minimum legal size they say,Fish over 1,000mm or 30kg are protected.

then Estuary -400mm (no mention of Rankin or Malabar cod) under the minimum legal size column.

Personally I don't keep estuaries, malabar or any of those cod apart from rankin, dont spear them anymore either.  Theyre ok eating, but with so many other top quality fish out there its better to go the goood stuff!

you'll remember something you should've brought with you when you get there Jody, always something gets left behind. I've written up a list and hell, it's massive! I wish we were there for 2/3 weeks. After the first wek of fishing hard, you can relax a bit more and take it all up in ya stride. Then the long drive back to the cement city and back to....... I won't say it, ok, WORK.......Maxy.......

All those little things to do when I had plenty of time. Now its all a rush to get finished.

Change my gear select cable, easy job, couple of hours max. 7 hours later and lots of swearing. 5 little screws that hold the throttle assemble together and do you think they would come out.

Time running out fast, 8 days to go for me.

I got my new lightish combo in from Campbells in time. Christened it already with some nice lg squid of the wall. I'll be even happier to leave this miserable weather behind!

We can probably still fill in a fish in on sunday NOHA. Sorry I didn't know you wanted to stay even longer, or I'd have made more space in my calender.

I only need to catch a flight to Melbourne late Monday evening (midnight flight)... so we can even get back to Perth on Monday, as long as its not cutting it too close.

Alternatively, if you really wanna stay I can strap myself in under the covers on Luke's boat and he can tow me back... shouldn't take as long as 19 hours. :P

we leave on the saterday the 21st, i can take both of you ( kasey and hlokk) back if need be, just will be a tight squeeze ( full car ) you just may have to leave some of your gear with the others is the only problem i can forsee...

If I can only come back with someone who has caught more fish than me, then I think that will give me a huge number of options, lol.

Need to be in Perth no later than midnight sunday (leaving 6 or 7am monday). I will however need my gear, though i'm only intending to take a smaller amount on the second trip. If theres a few cars going down, then might be able to split gear between, or chuck in the boat or something?

If I can get a lift back, then thats the main thing, and the rest can be sorted out up there I hope. ffs hlokk, both noha and myself have said that between us we can bring you back.  as i have said, the only drama i have MAY be your gear as well...if you both come back with me, that will be 5. but the three of us already going, are taking enough gear to start our own tackleshop...plus piss, plus other stuff... will be a pretty full load already. as i have said, i am sure we can work it out.  IF this isnt good enough, i am sure Kasey will be able to fill you in on the bus timetable, as he couldnt leave with the rest of us, so he is finding his own way there!
