Boat Hire - Exmouth

Hi Crew,

I don't do this very often but I'd like to advise any fishwrecked member not to hire boats from Bluewater BOAT HIRE in Exmouth. I have hired the boats twice in the last year both with serious problems out to sea. Over the radio the last few weekends, almost as many as I care to remember, there have been calls to sea rescue for assistance. I would hate for any FW member to have their holiday ruined by these less than reliable vessels. (Thats not to mention the spinal surgery you require after a day on the water in them)

Cheers,
Adam

Good luck even trying to get them on the phone. Took them all day to get back to me when I rang them last week.

Other hire boat operators warned me against them too. There having a lot of engine problems.

Hopefully the get it all sorted out as finding a hire boat up that way was getting difficult.

But I will throw in another quick plug for Murchison boat hire cause they where great. Pick it up on the highway and take to whatever your desination.

You owe me Laurie, thats twice nowTongue out

Interesting proposition

If I had a suitable boat for the conditions, better than the competition at comparable rates, would any of you guys be interested in hiring it over the next year + ?

Cheers,

not a bad idea i mean with the price of petrol to tow your own boat all the way up we could hire one from you save on wear and tear on the car too

Yeah we would look into it

One thing with hire boats

Wed, 2008-06-25 18:46

One thing with hire boats though is the 5NM limit. This apparrantly is a government set rule.

I could understand pre RST as inexperienced people could hire a boat but now you have passed a ticket and are deemed competant.

What about someone like me who often fishes 50/70km out but wants to hire a boat but gets told i have to paddle my feet in the shallows. Why!!

I might write a letter to my MP and ask him.

Agreed entirely Noha

Since DPI now requires skippers of trailorable boats to have an RST, I think this 5Nm limites should be waived! I suppose the difficult part would be convincing Insurers. Foot in mouth

5 NM RULE

Wed, 2008-06-25 18:50

Ok if ya want to fish close in the gulf.
I think tatabiddi on a good day would be ok on the inside of the reef. But if ya want to go out to exmouth reef or the islands your stuffed.

Share holders

I think in Exmouth the 5NM rule would be exempt around the islands, Just like Rotto.

Adam we could all be shareholders in the hire boat. Set one up for say 50K, then each fishwrecked member buys a share in the boat. How many members do we have? Profits are either reinvested or members get a dividend. All so shareholders get a special hire rate.....

I can certainly vouch for them!!! Don't think they have the boat WET DREAMS anymore but DREAM CATCHER (not the one for sale on FW) is a beauty!!!! Very cheap on the fuel and the rates are resonable as well. Mark and Mick are both top blokes and will look after you for sure. The boat spends summer in Perth and Exmouth over the winter. It was the hire boat I used before I got my own and it never missed a beat. 3/4 cab 225 Yamaha 4 stroke and the electronics were to die for( quite often think of doing the midnight raid for their plotter).

Have a look at the link!!!!

Wed, 2008-06-25 20:36

Yeah I spoke to him when I was trying to get a boat.

$400 a day no weekly rate.

So I asked when the boat was next booked and it had nothing for 2 weeks.

Offered him 2 grand for 7 days that no body had booked for and he still knocked it back.

Business must be good.

He must have them.

No bookings and willing to give up $2000 (Its only 2 days hire off)

Maybe he wanted to go fishing himself for one of those days but saying no to a very reasonable offer like that is not a smart business move IMO.

If you had a boat up there and you , lets say , lent it out to your mates quite a bit and they gave you some money in gratitude to help out with the bills, would that constitute a hire boat ?

But then he couldn't get the tax benifits from it and trust me the tax man would find out. Yell A meeting with the Tax man is like shoving a brick in your mouth and pulling it out of your butt.

But in answer top your question Adam "YES" if the boat was set up properly and reasonably sized I would hire it from you.

Fly up, jump in the boat, fish then fly back sounds good to me. I can hear it now

BOAT HIRE Obligations

Thu, 2008-06-26 08:19

1) It would seam the vast majority of hire companies 'do the right thing'

2) With all the maintenance in the world, there's no guarantee of never needing assistance.

But, that said, surely there should be legilated accountability if the company's boats are breaking down and therefore puttinfg customers at risk and undue calls on vital resources like SS&R.

Exmouth Boat Hire

Wed, 2008-07-16 09:14

Have been reading your comments regarding Blue Water Boat Hire and the lack thereof alternative boat hire in Exmouth. Our business Exmouth Boat and Kayak Hire has been operating for the past 4 years. Mainly hiring out 4 metre tinnies, some would be familiar with the "Woodduck", we now have a 5.5 metre marineline on board. Not meaning to plug the business, but we are located at 102 Murat Rd, at Ningaloo Tours n Travel...just down the road from Bluewater and if you Google boat hire in Exmouth, we virtually come straight up. So why haven't you been able to find us guys!My hubby has been living and fishing up there for nearly 20 years and pretty much knows when and where to fish the local waters. If he thinks you kind of half know what youre doing he may even give you some tips. On the issue of break downs, I don't know what goes on with BlueWater, but we rarely have them occur, but occassionally it does happen. Quiet often user error...Get this, Client was out at sea and couldn't start the boat, set off flares and called sea rescue, was towed in to find he accidently knocked the kill switch and of course the motor wouldn't start....this was on the Woodduck, hence the name.
