I've had good success with
I've had good success with the squidgy pro 70mm pillys. I think i was using 1/4oz so i could work them faster. Fair few in a packet and has a scent packet as well.
Tried some small gold fleck grubs but they were only interested in a twisty that day. (5g as it matches their food like the above SP).

can't beat the good old 3inch/4inch bass minnows in pearl watermelon, but when the herring are boiling, they'll take anything.

Quite a few guys recommend
Quite a few guys recommend the bass minnows (e.g. 3") for a lot of things, so good to have in your tackle box as Blake mentioned.
Mostly though, dont forget the burley.

LOL Spess!
Funny... Powerbass Minnows in any colour but Greens work best! 1/8oz jig head will do the trick. Burley is the main point!
Cheers lads,

The twisty, the squidgy and
The twisty, the squidgy and the bait fish were all around the same length, around the same proportions and a silvery or blue colour. All around 70mm (5 and 10g twisty, incl of hook)
Edit: SPESS, not sure about the other guys but direct connection to the herring on very light line on a very light rod is a lot more fun than a straw behind a float, at least IMO. Though in terms of effectiveness and simplicity, hard to beat the lumo tube.

spess research makes perfect
hmmmm herring easy on there spess they can be pretty tough , although you are on the right track spess if fisherman breno can give you some advise it would be always test your lures in the pool first (including lumo tube) and always use a twiste double for hezzas to make sure it spins in the direction you want it to

Wogs ?
Do they make SP wogs ?? The old boys down Cott used to clean up on herring with wogs, I used to use a yellow straw cut up from HJ's (many many moons ago).
I haven't fished for herring for about 10years so maybe they have refined there taste now
(not!).
Have a great day.

I allways got told to match or mimic the bait with what the fish's normal diet is.
So im stuffed to see how the fish find corn kernels.
But if it works stick to it eh.
Have a great day.

Lindsay it all has to do
Lindsay it all has to do when the trout are stocked into dambs etc that when they are bread up they get fed corn from fingerlings as it beafs there wieght up quicker than most other products, well that are as cheap as corn anyway. Hope that anwsers your question mate.

To the rescue! hehe :p I was
To the rescue! hehe :p
I was wondering about the corn myself before. Its because in the US, they use corn for various panfish/coarsefish, usually freshwater fish (incl trout and bass). To be honest, I think the corn shape is for the angler, not the fish. Any rounded shape would work the same. I'd be surprised if they werent the same stuff.
The gulp maggots are useful to carry around for when you see some gardies or baitfish and dont have any bait for them.

Fair enough (and hence the sarcasm in my post :p). It woulda been better if it was behind the other post you had. Bit pointless if theres lots in between.

edit: it is only one study with one fish with one comparison product though. theres a lot of factors they might not mention, so not calling your expertese into judgement. the link says otherwise, but i dont know whos right :p
