Multiple entries - one reason.
I don't think this site purges members from the list immediately once they are logged of or get disconnected (CPU busy...blah, blah, bla). In fact, I know it doesn't because another member and I did a test of that. He logged off and was still shown in the list. So that might also help explain it.

Its a glitch when we moved from drupal 3.7 to 4.6, noted it to my mate that did the site but he's O/S at the moment and is back in 3 weeks, will get him to have a look. People stay on the log for an hour after logging off, cache. :)
