Ocean Mulloway

With fear of looking like an idiot (that's not hard!) I want to ask a question that's been on my mind...
Where are all the Ocean/Sea Mulloway?
What I mean is... you catch them along the beach and off the jetty's (from the 'side'), but why have I never caught one, or seen one caught from a boat out in the deep?
I've only ever heard of one guy catching them on a charter once...
So, are they caught out in the deep? Approx where? How/Technique? (Anything special) When?

try the rotto containers some top ones hangin around there and a hell of a lot closer than the derwent or sulphur bay is not bad sometimes
