RST

Finally signed up to do my RST this Saturday - are the self test questions pretty much the same as thosed asked in the actual theory test? I am pretty well clued up but don't have a lot of free time to memorise every detail.

Pretty much

The questions are all in the book the test just picks a smaller amount of them.

Its quite easy just have a bit of a read of the workbook each night and you will be fine.

Have a great day.

Thanks Guys

I am pretty well up with them - but ever since i only got 3 out of 100 for Algebra i have been a bit wary of tests - and the 3 was for spelling my name correctly on the top of the sheet.

As long as you know bionomial and quadratic equations, inertia and vectors of force and and adhesive and cohesive tendering, you'll be fine Tongue out

Nah, as Lindsay said, if you know the answers to the multiple choice tests at the end of each chapter, you do ok.

walk in the park

Tue, 2008-08-05 15:55

hehehe Ian - As for the theory - it's a walk in the park if you know the multiple question answers. It would seem the practical varies depending on where you go.

But the latter is not too difficult also.

Assessors

Tue, 2008-08-05 16:04

I went through TAFE in Albany and there was 2 guys running it and they were both really really good and easy going (but took the prac quite serious). From previous posts and discussions on the practical assessment, it seems that the assessment can vary from quite stringent (if you get a tosser) to pretty lax.

For mine, I had to undertake:

1) A safety debrief of the boat.

2) Launch (obviously)

3) Radio log in.

4) Controlled emergency stop.

5) Simulated 'Man' Overboard

6 Return, Log Out and Retreival.

But that was in a one on one situation.

Interesting

For mine I had to write down the answers the guy told us after we were half way through the theory, no practical either as we got in early... Foot in mouth

Actually Adam wasn;t that the pre RST period? A sort of bridging assessment? Small Boat Course I think it was called?

As my instructor led us

Tue, 2008-08-05 22:15

As my instructor led us through the theory he told us what to write down as it would be in the assesment, & if a couple of perople still got stuck so he gave them the answers! but took the prac side serious as it was his boat, crash = instant failure

Good advice FF

Yup, don't rush your practical. The advice I received from the assessor was to make any turns etc gradual.

hey mate where are you goin

Wed, 2008-08-06 12:59

hey mate where are you goin to get your RST from? and where are you doing it.

i got mine around 2 months ago and found that if you know distances well eg. meters from divers and river banks etc. then they are usually the questions you may get wrong because the most common distances are 45m and 50m and most questions will have both to choose from.

As far as the practical goes if you'ce ever used a boat you'll be fine. i did mine in a 4m tinnie and had never used a boat before and it took 30mins to do the whole thing.

Miles from Busso but the guy in the office next door is running it and using his clapped out Penguin as the test boat so no worries on the score of smashing it.

the examiner I had told me the most commonly incorrect answers where
1. the dumping of sewage
2. when you can you tie up to the dock with the no mooring sign ( you cant)
