I probably wont fish out there much during the ban, If you get out there and the current is running or the wind comes up you just as well head for home as your only option is to fish shallower, with the V5 ban there isn't much else to catch. I usually just head out fishing for the day and if the conditions look good I'll call a mate up on the radio and see if they wont to team up and head out past the 200. The weather forecast would have to be perfect for me just to head straight out over 60km offshore and even then the current could be too strong? It's always a good idea to team up with another boat for safety as 60km is a long way out if something goes wrong in a 6m boat. It will take a rescue boat at least 2 hours to get out to you by the time they recieve your call, If the current is running you may need your mates boat to tow you just to keep you in the general area while waiting for bigger rescue boat. I'm always watching the weather out there as it can change very quickly. SAFETY FIRST
How much ground is out there, I am assuming that once you get to the depth the last thing you would want to do is spend hours looking around for ground. I suppose that you do look for ground, or do you serach for signs of fish on the sounder?
If weather is borderline won't do much searching, but on the flat calm days will do searching for new ground as tend to have more time to look around and get a better sounder reading. Working with another boat is the go spread a few Kms apart and work together.
It's just your basic rig that you would use for your Dhui's but just beef it up and add some lumo, I only use winches out there and the braid is thick so I use at least 1.5kg lead you will need at least 32ounce on your rod and reel which is about 1kg.
yeah and a harness and gimble belt is a MUST, bloody takes ages to get them fish up, especially if they dont have a stomach to blow and float up like mine LOL
