East Perth Snapper

Went down to the river last night, couldnt catch a bream to save my life but did get this little tacker.. made me wonder what size this and possibly other fish would grow to before leaving the river..

So what length do you think he was, between 15-20cm? Great to see him in the river and in what looks like pretty good condition. Used to catch lots that size in the estuaries down south, called them bay snapper, but one being caught as far up river as East Perth is awesome.

I've heard that they used to catch good sized snapper in at Blackwall reach once upon a time, who knows, maybe the bigger ones do come upstream, would love to know!!!!

the river must be really

the river must be really salty for them to go so far upstream, id say it was close to 20cm, a far cry from the metre long schnappers i got at north mole a few years ago... landing a whopper right in the river would be pretty special. wouldnt be suprised if oceanfarm in freo release a few small fish..

been a few about the river last month or so. No size ones ive heard of yet, apparently they used to commercially fish the swan for snapper in the early years.
