arvo barra bash
Decided to go for a fish this afternoon at the secret spot, was quite warm over the past few days and the tides we perfect. Had a bit of luck getting some livies early on, a couple of good sized turbos. We arrived a little early so we opted for some live bait fishing to start the day off, anth was the first to hook up. Unfortunately it was not the fish we were after although it did provide some great jumping for all to see.
Anths queenie took a live mullet on the flood tide
All was pretty quiet for the next hour or so. Chris was flicking a few lures around a slightly different area to the one renowned for producing some nice barra. I was rigging up, when i heard that familiar hoot from someone that has never caught a barra before. I ran over to see Chris land his first ever barra of around 62cm on a 120 laserpro red head.
Chris's first ever barra
After the first barra was landed we all decided that it was time to work the lures a little harder. We moved over to the ever reliable spot and started working it. I hooked up on to a bloody stingray and it busted me off while i was trying to get the classic purple dazzler off (yepp jay i lost it). Anth immediately hooked up and it was all on again. A few minutes later anth landed a fish of around 75cm. Not bad!
Anth's first for the day and first ever on a lure for that matter, well done mate!
After a few photos the fish released very well.
Anth was bragging and i was still having trouble with my gear. He walked over after changing his lure and first cast hooked up again (bastad). A little while longer and he landed his second fish for the day of around 65cm again on a lure.
Anths second barra for the day again on a lure
well i had a few hits but i guess after the fish last weekend it was good for someone else to catch a couple. Chris had never caught a barra until today and anth had never caught one on a lure until today so it was fantastic to witness that. We must thank Jay burgess who unfortunately could not come today for showing us this spot. Don't worry buddy the secret is safe and all fish were released in a very healthy condition.
Well done boys and we will see if we can give them a crack tomorrow.
Cheers
PB

Land based barra's
Certainly a good session there Brad.
Anth would be wrapped with his first barra on a lure, however IMO he probably dodged a lure in the hand bullet today.

Good to hear mate, live
Good to hear mate, live mullet is a sure fire way to get them but it's fun to get them on lures too.
Around feb we average about 8 barra a day, with the best conditions (tide, water temp) producing catches up to 20 barra per day. On a quiet day (water temp down, tides not ideal) we still manage around 3-4 fish. Average size about 80-85cm.
