If you want to get onto reds

Sun, 2007-10-21 20:58

If you want to get onto reds and mackies its a fair run out about 80KM from Denham out to Dirk Hartog. Was there November last year and was blown out for a week and only stayed close with only a few shark mackies around. Try ringing a charter buisness and asking them what its like for fishing that time of year. The best thing is if it blows you can still find somewhere to fish and the beer is cold at the pub in Denham.

its windy up there till

Sun, 2007-10-21 21:01

its windy up there till january-ish...

However, you can still get good days... gets bloody hot too on the glass days.....

You can always try fishing monkey mia side, rather than missioning out to dirk hartog or steep point area, head north towards the top of cape peron and use your sounder and you should find some good bombies to drift over...

The mackies and tuna are known to be on that side however, not sure about that time of the year...

Looking for the same for a trip the Steep from Denham in early January.

Best I can find http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/wind/selection_map.shtml

For other areas it says to contact the Bureau - might be worth a shot.

water temp

Tue, 2007-10-23 16:57

water tenp looks about 25deg in dec and jan and 25-29deg for feb being the warmest month,
would be ok up there anytime around then for surface fishing you would think.
just depends on the wind!

yeah, holiday season is

Fri, 2007-10-26 21:26

yeah, holiday season is holiday season... its a great tourist attraction for foreigners and eastern staters......

As for fishing though, get accomodation where you can but yeah, definitly launch at the monkey mia ramps and head north....

It WILL be hot and windy lol and although the water temp is up, denham side is almost always blown out and chopped up to hell....

If you get a GOOD day, definitly take it but watch the winds hey, they swing around very fast and catch ya unawares.

yeah man, dunno if i said it

Sat, 2007-10-27 16:52

yeah man, dunno if i said it earlier, my old man has a house up there which is supposed to be his holiday house but he lives there more than down here in perth more often than not now so yeah... I was making plans to go up mid late november but decided against it for now because its rushed and it isnt an awesome time for the year... due to the winds...

But ive been up there before at this time and its ok.. id say more surface fish yeah... definitly out from monkey mia and yeah, if you see a good day, definitly head out as early as you can and take the opportunity! Otherwise, yeah, beer it up on the beach and enjoy everything else.....

If you have a 4x4, head into the national park and hit up some of the estuary systems they have. Nothing diverse but you still find fish in them and the drive is fun.

If you get the itch so bad you want to stretch ya arms out... get some big hooks, big tackle and chuck a big bait on the end and walk north of denham along the beach for about 30 mins and cast out and wait for a tiger or anything else sharky lol

Mon, 2007-10-29 15:47

ah, hes an old codger, he'll drain you with war stories and excuses as to why he doesnt take the boat out past the last pileon in the channel at denham. LOL

But yeah, Ive fished the big lagoon, got some nice bream in there funny enough... lol

I was pretty dumbass when it comes to fishing last time I was there though... however, I caught a nice pinkie off the jetty when it was blowing a gale and these 2 other dudes were squidding hahaha

Was stoked :D

Do a day trip to the point (Steep).  But leave early.  Its 3hrs each way aprox.

On your way back from the point stop in at the causeway fish sea side and berley up and BAM some of the biggest yellowfin bream youll ever see. among other things big and fishy.

Bring extra fuel just in case.

Rickets Sorry Mate for being

Sun, 2007-12-02 12:41

Rickets Sorry Mate for being ignorant,

The causeway is on the way to the point.
AKA Cloughs Bar, Its where the salt company use tidal flood gates to trap water and evaporation intesifies the salt.

The good thing is that it traps fish and they cant get out and they get bigger and bigger and are in plentiful supply.  I dont think that your allowed to fish them but since when doenst a kid pinch a lolly at a lolly shop.

go to the useless loop turn off and ya cant go wrong long drive but.

Cheers
