jigging

gday ollie,
when you get those flat days a 21 ft boat could easily make it out the aggs. situated approx 5mile off the back of rotto. the sambos school up in about 100-110m of water to spawn around this time of year untill feb/march next year! if you dont want to travel that far then there are always sambos on 3mile! might not be as big but still around the 8-10kg mark, which still go like freight trains, there will be the big boys around aswell! 20kg+. anchor up on 3mile in about 20m (ish) of water and burley up and they will be around in no time!

if you head out to the containers then use minimum 300g jig! river2sea sea rocks, knife jigs, s.w lab slim jigs, fat tails, daiwa sacrifice sticks, zest jigs etc etc. there's a huge range!

if you head to 3mile in about 20m of water then pretty much any jig around 30-60gm depending on the current

good luck mate

cheers
sam

Only a 21ft boat

Sat, 2007-11-10 10:41

Hi Ollie,

Mine is only 18 1/2 foot and I have no issues taking it of the back of Rotto,
Just pick your days and keep a eye on the weather.

Yes you will get sambo's from 3 mile but it can be hit and miss,
The containers around Rotto are less of a lottery, you can't miss them
on any good day it's like a boat party out there.

Couple of points

Take a "Large" Release weight and use it.
If the sharks come around stop and move to another location.
Set your drift so you won't hit other boats.
Take a masseur (he he jokes but it would be good)

Its Sambo Time !!

no probs!

I've got a 21ft boat and no probs at all re Rotto ags. I'd go straight out there as mentioned and they're really starting to school up. Just pick a good day Ollie and we have charts here that have the  co-ords also so if you dont have......pop in!

I use 200 grams baitfish Zest jigs (can get skippy and bottom fish with also)  The other fav for me is the SWLAB slim 375 gram.....sambo's love it and it rockets to the floor and good for windy days and currents. The key is to find them on the sounder and drop there, often people go back to the co-ord drift position but the school has moved or moved along with a hooked sambo etc. Find the school again and drop....that's the key!

All the best!

If you don't want to head

If you don't want to head out to far in your boat the gamini of north mindarie is a good spot, hit and miss for other species though.
