Thought i would commence a thread to cover the AFL trade and draft periods as it seems the clean outs are already starting.
Two plus a retirement from Carlton and Cloke has requested a trade.
Freo obviously lose the Pav, but i expect (and hope) there will be many more! I'll call 15 changes to Freo's senior and rookie list.

You mean if he's getting it 40+ times the opposition might get it back a couple of times don't you ? This guy is the best in the comp for effective disposals so not sure where you are coming from. What I like about him is his number one rating in total contested possessions.
Freo can thank their lucky stars that he is prepared to get in and get the hard ball cause no one else will...

I cant believe the stat that he is no 1 for effective disposals. Perhaps only because he gets it more than anyone else. But i would rather he get it 21 times and give it the opposition once, than get it 40 times and give it to them 20 times.

He would make a great mentor
He would make a great mentor for any young kids that suffer serious injury. He has been at the club 7 years and really only played his first season. Taken #4 the same year that freo got fyfe at #20. Thats how highly rated he was. And his first year proved it. Such a quick and skilful player.

He still hasn't put pen to paper on the contract extension and West Coast are now public with the fact they have been in talks with his Manager. Darling may well be the carrot that could get it done this year if Melbourne know they won't hold the cards next year when his current contract is up.

Mccarthy to Freo, mckenzie to GWS, ballantyne to the eagles i think is a good swap. Mckenzie will get another flag before ballaz get his!
And i cant wait for the entertainment that will be the eagles fans bagging their own player (ballaz that is!)

GWS are just a mob of pig headed arrogant fucks IMO. Theyre like the youth of today "entitled". AFL has given them everything on a silver platter and they have talented kids in bucketloads. Its unlikely mccarthy would have got a game this year, but no, GWS chose to keep a kid out of the game. In any other industry if one of your employees doesnt want to work for you, you release them.
I hope GWS lose mccarthy and lobb this year. And get raped and pillaged by every other club in the league.

Kind of a hard one as clubs have every right to retain players who have signed a contract with them. In some private industries, part of your contract is that you cannot work for a competing company for 2 years after you terminate your contract earlyl.
I personally am a bit sick of the players thinking they are running the show and trying to manipulate the rules. Clubs like Hawthorn can entice contracted players to demand a trade and nominate their club of choice by offering them third party deals. Think Juddy with his 'Visy Environmental Ambassador' role.
Good on Hawthorn for working within the rules but clubs like Melbourne and North Melbourne simply cannot match them.
Freo and West Coast need to take the Hawthorn approach and start being ruthless with getting key talent back to WA.

How often do those type of contracts stick though? Lots have a non compete clause but the reality is that it is hard to find someone guilty of trying to feed their family.

I may be remembering it wrong but pretty sure my mate who worked in banking in London had a whole raft of bonuses and entitlements worth about $20-30k withheld until the end of his contract when he moved back to Oz.
You're probablyprobably right though, if someone wanted him bad enough they would stump up that money on sign up but you'd soon make a bad name for yourself if you kept burning bridges with an industry

Take tarrant out of that please. Freo turned him into one of the better key defenders playing at the time. I will give you the rest. Yep freo made a lot of mistakes. But absolutely no club has received the draft compensation picks or access to academy players that GWS Has. Just think for a moment how conflicted the AFL is between their league equalisation policy and their establishment of GWS... they have done everything they can to equalise the league, and then everything they can to ensure a team is successful in the shortest timeframe.
I think you may have even said before jack, the when the compensation wears off, the afl will be left with a club with no supporter base, no heart, no sole, and no talent.

. Will be the same as $ubiaco Lions when their Subiaco Oval deal finishes. I've always said that Tasmania should have got an AFL before GWS or Gold Coast.
It gives me great joy seeing the way that Gold Coast have completely fucked it it with similar concessions.
The academy along with having access to father son picks is the biggest load of shit ever but at least the ledgar will be squared soon somewhat with Eagles and Dockers having access to remote zones within WA. It's then up to us to develop those zones.

That's Lobbe and Hogan off the table for another 3 years each which now takes Darling off the table. I've heard that Shae Bolton has signed with a Melbourne team so that means we keep Emac who lets not forget was out club champion in 2014 and very stiff to misss out on AA.
Swallow is still getable but you'd think that if Wells goes to the Pies then North have the money and personel (his big brother) to get him there. The only other option worth looking at is pinching McCarthy from under Freo's nose and moving Darling into a midfield role.
Aside from that, I think West Coast now need to find an AFL delisted or experienced VFL/WAFL/SANFL ruckman to fill a hole for the year and head to the draft to the draft to bolster out midfield. Target one is a big bodied mid who can win the contested football and I wouldn't be terribly upset if we had to trade Masten to Gold Coast to facilitate this. As much as I'd hate to admit it, if we can get Ballantyne for nothing it would be worth a risk as we simply do not have a genuine crumber to suit our 'game plan' when we are under pressure which seems to involve bombing it in long to our forwards who aren't particularly strong overhead.

They are saying freo will get a pixk in the 20's (most likely pick 22) as compensation for mayne. That pick will be used as a direct swap for hill and hawthorn will use it to get mitchell or omeara.
Last i heard the concept for mccarthy is for him to come to freo, ballas goes to west coast and mackenzie to gws. Sticking point is tge eagles want more for mckenzie (a player not in their best 22, and currently whats on the table is an all Australian small forward who can add something to their midfield. Beggers cant be choosers. Perhaps throw clarke in as a sweetner).
It was pointed out to me that mccarthy and apeness were taken very close together in the same draft. Gws took mccarthy and apeness was the next key position player taken by freo about 8 picks later. That means freo will have some young tall talent in the firward line to work with.
Hogan and lobb? Well both wa teams have missed out. Not sure why the media focus is all about freo missing out. Sounded to me like west coast were definitely eyeing off hogan and if they werent looking for lobb as another ruck option, well I'll dont know what theyre doing)

Sticking point is tge eagles want more for mckenzie (a big mature player coming back from an ACL that couldn't find confidence in his body and had to be sidelined as Eagles made the push into September due to emergence of Barass).
Who's begging here? Mitch Clown's Mrs has signed with the Magpies netball team and his brother plays for Collingwood so you'd think he's goneski (thank fuck). Not a chance on earth we are going to be giving up our 2014 club champion for a crumber who's done nothing in the past two years and a ruckman that's had 1 okish season and can't get a game in a side without Sandi playing. If we even wanted Clarke or Ballantyne, we'd get either for a late 2nd or 3rd round pick. A fit and confident Emac will against shut down the best key forwards and allow McLovin to swing forward and cover the deficiency we have in the forward line which is the ability to mark the high ball coming in (such is our midfield's want when things aren't going well) or give Shep more freedom to run through the middle.
Was really hoping we could lure Lobbe to West Coast or involve Darling in a trade to get Hogan but I reckon we keep an eye on any offers with a view to heading to the draft now.
Might have to see if the AFL will let Darling wear dark shorts for every game to hide the stains after he shits himself.

He is a wet weather specialist so anywhere in vic will suit (other than etihad)

Even if Hogan only had eyes on Freo it would have been negligent for West Coast to not have a crack. Afterall, it's Melbourne who decides what they'll take as a trade and not Jesse Hogan and if he was 100% on heading home it'd be up to the clubs to work it all out and Melbourne would get the final say... this year.
