New Avet/Xyoga combo

I just put together a new combo for 30lb. I got the Avet SX 6/4 MC for father's day and put it on a Xyoga built up by David from Seasons Rods, picked up from The Tackle Shack. Now I just need to blood it!

There are lots of upsides to being a father, often you just can't see them all at once =)

The avets have a bit of a patchy rep here, but I'm hoping the new silent retrieve model is a bit better. Its also a two speed, with cast control so they went all out with this model.

I had/have a saltist with 50lb on it, and its heavy enough to make smaller fish no fun, so I just wanted to get up something right on 30lb.

The Avet SX single is about $400 in aus now with the shoddy currency, no idea what the two speed version cost with magic cast cost, google says about $360US.

Till, from my limited expereince with them is that the Avet's will need bit more TLC so just take care of it and service it as often as you can to protect the bearings and keep the drags clean and you should be ok.

Any one know if the new Avet's are using sealed bearing?? if it does that would have solved half the Avet's problems i rekon

I would be interested in hearing how it goes as I have an Avet which I would like to pair up with my Xzoga rod.

The current avets have sealed bearings but irritatingly the drag washer is push fit, so to get it out to grease behind it would destroy it. My old SX 5.01 had brass gears, but the new one has stainless steel.

$250 is a good price locally for new ones, Todd's is about the cheapest I'm aware of online and a lot of other placed repriced high in a bit of a panic!

I've seen avet's with bent teeth on the gears and the crap spring on the anti reverse pawl, and the crap anti reverse pawl, and the crap bearings, not one of my favourite reels, they look nice and I hope you get a lot of use out of them,I doubt if you'll buy another.I used to repair reels,so would have seen more than the average bloke.

My Opinion.
