Does anyone know where I can buy / get hold od scrap lead. Needing to make some new sinkers

Any scrap metal dealer should have some . Or you could try the tyre shops but that's a bit more work melting off the crap. Just made a heap for our coral Bay trip

Plenty ..
Plenty round ... we normally get a heap
then do two cook offs . One to skim off .
then into ingots then once purified then
poured into the moulds .. cheers pirate

Tyre shop
If you go to a tyre shop make sure you take a 20l bucket with you then you can just swap it out for the one they are using, it's easier to get a yes if you actually go into the shop & not just ring (some beer on a Friday afternoon will get you a bucket full quicker).
I usually get about 50kg in a 20l bucket and if you find any tools in there take them back to the shop and you will get prefferential treatment next time, you could write your phone number on the bucket and they will ring you when it gets full.
A while ago when I was doing a lot of beach fishing I got over 900 X 4, 5, & 6 Oz star sinkers out of one bucket of wheel weights, I still have some from that melt and that would of been around 2010 when I made them, I may have a pic in my photos on here.
I usually make sinkers out of pure lead and bullets with the wheel weights and drop them straight from the mould into a bucket of water to get them hard with a cold water quench so they can be pushed quicker down a barrel. It was only costing me around $10 to make 100 bullets for my .357 and .44 magnums when I had pistols.
When I used my own bullets it was a hell of a lot cheaper to make and reload them,,,, a lot better than over $50 for 50 rounds from a gun shop.
Cheaper than shooting a .22 rimfire even. (I won a few club champs running my own loads)
I have been making them for over 50 years and the lead levels in my body are lower than the normal person (I had my doc test for it a couple of years ago), but I do eat a lot of fish and roo meat so that might help.

Funny you mention making
Funny you mention making bullets. As kids growing up in Geelong we used to go to the local rifle range and collect the projectiles that were stuck in the sand behind the target areas. We then used that to make sinkers. Same process but kinda in reverse!

Ha! I grew up in Geelong too, and did the same thing. Still remember the crack! crack! crack! at the shooting range right beside where we were playing Junior footy at Belmont Common early on Saturday mornings... :)
