1300 hr service

Hey guys, I've been servicing my 225 4stroke outboard for a fair while now doing all the normal things, just wondering if any of you blokes with an idea can tell me how often should I get the extras like tappet clearances adjusted and idle speed checked, any other things that I might want to get a pro to look at?
Thanks,
Matt

It's a johnzuki, has a timing chain not belt. Was really just wondering if there's an indicator for doing the tappet clearances or is it something you do every few hundred hours?

I cant speak for johnson and
I cant speak for johnson and Suzuki but honda says to check valve clearance every 200hrs however they never need adjustment until about 1000 hrs.another thing is keep on top of your thermostats.
The service manual is a great idea as Scottnofish mentioned

Johnzuki
I have a smaller johnzuki, the manual says it should be checked periodically And adjusted as required so if you have been servicing yourself and don't want to do the valve adjustment your self then book it in somewhere. There isn't a service interval for this just as required as you can hear it in the motor of the adjustment is way out.
I am sceptical as to how many boat shops actually take the time to check this anyway

Just a little note on valve
Just a little note on valve clearances, there should be a set interval the manufacturer recomends.
They don't always let you know adustment is required by making a noise (excessive clearance)
More often than not they actually become tight as the seat wears resulting in the clearance decreasing and therefore remaining quiet.
If not checked and adjusted this could lead to the valves not closing properly resulting in reduced performace and eventually "burnt out" valves.
I would at a minimum check/adjust them every 1000hrs as Maggot suggested.
My fishing spots are so secret........... even the fish don't know where they are !!

I was going to mention that
I was going to mention that too crusty about them tightning up as the valve seat recesses. They only loosen if the lock nut loosens. So they actually get quieter if anything
