2010 Saltiga 4000 PE help
Submitted by turts on Mon, 2011-06-20 09:00
hi guys still seriously contemplating this reel but my question is in regards to line capacity
the 4000 is rated to hold 300m of PE3
im looking at the daiwa accudepth
standard 30lb accudepth has 0.3mm rating
but the tournament 8 braid accudepth is 0.16mm
will the tournament line not be enough to fill the spool? im assuming its more a PE1-2 rating than PE3 and seeing as it comes in 300m spools i might be better off with the standard accudepth?
any thoughts?
cheers

you will need to put backing
you will need to put backing on the reel with boths lines. The line i would recommend would be the new saltiga hyper 8, i run PE 2 on mine which is 35lb, the PE3 is rated at 50lb either way you will still fit 300mts with each braid. The other two braids you have mentioned are great however The saltiga hyper is much better then them

If your going with the
If your going with the tournament accu-depth then do run the 40lb. Fish that as a PE2.5-3 because of its fine diameter.
I agree with Luke, i run the hyper 8 PE3 on mine and rate it very highly

cheers guysrun the accudepth
cheers guys
run the accudepth on my catalina and had no issues with it so im happy to consider it again
might need a hell of a lot of backing though if i choose the tournament model at PE1-2 0.16mm to fill up a 2010 4000. surely would fit another 100m of backing seems a bit unrealistic for what im used to. might be better off with the standard accudepth 0.3mm PE3? what you gusy think?
didnt want to go any heavier than 30lb to be honest so pretty certain 40lb is out of the running
had a successful tuna trip not long back, bluefin around 8-12kg barely gave us much stick on 15kg mono outfit so as i plan to use it on future tuna trips not really keen on beefing up to 40lb spin gear

if you were going to be using
if you were going to be using the tournament accudepth like sam said you would be better off with the 40lb, fish it more like a 30lb. Due to how thin it is you wont get the strength out of your knots if you go with 30lb.

thanks luke not a bad ideai
thanks luke not a bad idea
i could just go the old standard accudepth 0.3mm will fill the reel perfectly with the thicker diameter you would think
dont really need the 40lb as even if i wanted to up the drag a bit dont know if the game 68S-3 rod would cope as its only rated to PE3 or am i interpreting the specs wrong? not very used to PE talk usually just line rating

I have to say I've always
I have to say I've always wondered why a smaller spool would be chosen for a reel that ends up giving the same weight. Unless for some reason it's cheaper there seems to be no benefit as weight is the same and you lose line capacity. I would select the 40 lb as you have the extra security of line strength for not only when you need it but as the line ages it weakens along with small nicks etc. Just my 2 cents.

Would the rod tolerate the 40lb bunny seeing as it's rated PE3 that's the main thing I'm stuck on?

I doubt it will but you give
I doubt it will but you give yourself a safety margin by having it. Any weaknesses develop and you may still nto have a bustoff. Set your drag according to the rod and you know the line won't break. it's one of the big advantages to braid, you can put a heavier line on the reel and still have enough line capacity to not get spooled.
