50cm Bream

Just thought I'd share this catch as I thought it was exceptional!

Guy I deal with through work was fishing with his mate and (his mate) caught this a fortnight ago in the Swan (I won't dilvulge where exactly). Didn't get an exact meassurement as they didn't have a tape but judging by the fact it's larger than two Carlton Draught stubbies I'd say it's very close to the 50cm mark. Either way damn huge Blackie.

 Nice fish mate, judging by

Tue, 2013-04-09 17:36

Nice fish mate, judging by the size of the guys hands against the fish, it doesnt look to be the 50cm. Then again i didnt see it in the flesh so could be wrong. But either way its still a cracker, over 40!! Glad to hear you released it as well :)

Wed, 2013-04-10 07:43

Yeah 50cm was an estimate as I said, I'm judging that by the fact it's bigger than 2 Budwiser bottle stacked end to end and they're around 23cm high each.

LOL, there is no way in hell

Wed, 2013-04-10 19:24

LOL, there is no way in hell that bream is 50cm. I dont even think its 40cm.

Judging by the pics i'd say its 35cm or so.

He's holding the fish out infront of the stubbie. You can estimate the fish size in proportion to his thumb, which is actually on the fish, not held behind it.

Zoom in on the image so the thumb is about the same size as an average thumb and then measure the fish. Measures at about 35-36cm for me. Now unless of course your mate is 7'6 and has thumbs 5cm diameter thumbs, there's no way that fish is 50cm long.

OK hero  I forgot you were there and had a tape measure.

You can choose to believe what you will, was merely sharing a terrific catch and from I was told and from what I can see it looks pretty close to a mid 40cm specimen.

I dont need a tape measure

Wed, 2013-04-10 22:17

I dont need a tape measure buddy, i can see by the picture. I've seen thousands of bream and I know what they look like. Bigger bream (ie 45cm +) have a totally differnt morphology to the smaller speciemens. If you seriously believe that's a 45cm+ bream, then go for it, but puting a title such as '50cm bream', when there's no way in hell that it's even close to 50cm, is a bit stupid and misleading.

 Sorry, you're right. A title

Wed, 2013-04-10 23:30

Sorry, you're right. A title of "40 something CM black bream, but definetly not as big as 50 cm because its physical morphology hasn't changed" sounds way better.

Gonna have to side with

Thu, 2013-04-11 03:08

Gonna have to side with Daniel here. It's a good fish and looks around to 40 mark to me. Saying a fish is 50cm is a big call, as big fish do look BIG in the photos. Would have been nice to get a shot of it laying on the ground laying next to two bud bottles, save any questions then.

Glad to hear it was returned, that's the main thing!

Nice bream

Wed, 2013-04-10 23:39

Nice bream, very dark and defintely a long fish for the weight ( going by the picture ) They can vary alot in weight . Have caught many at 50cm , most were about 2 kg but quite a few were half that weight for some reason, and looked similar to the one in the picture you posted.

Unfortuantly pictures don't always show the fish for the great capture it was . Cheers Grant

I agree idiots like you stop newbies posting. Think it, like I did, but why go off and rant about it. Does it realy matter, and as stated "wasnt measured, gestimation, and either way its a large fish".

Someone wants to post a picture to show a nice capture. He wasnt bragging about it, as it was a mate of a mate that caught the fish. Ie no bragging rites in the post.

FFS leave the agro on the keyboard without hitting save. Otherwise nobody will post a picture unless they are an expert at gestimating fish, or have a measure at hand. When I fish for a feed I take a measure. When C&R (mostly) I dont. So I would gestimate a fish like he did. So what if I was wrong.

Or I suppose if it said +40cm bream you wouldnt have wasted your precious time looking!!!

Edit: PS Nice large breamski and keep up the pictures. Most off us just like to see fish and dont worry about side issues.

I think Crasny1 summed it up pretty well. I only posted the pic to show thy good size bream can be caught in the upper reaches of the swan still. It's not even my fish! Just wanted to share a very nice catch with other people who (supposedly) would also appreciate it.

I think enough has been said. Enjoy the pic for what it is :)

Cheers, Jesse.

I got really big hands!

FISH: an animal that grows the fastest. between the time it's caught. and the time the fisherman describes it to his friends.
