Abrolhos over Easter, general pics
this will probably more of general interest as we spent most of the time just cruising and getting checked by Fisheries rather than actually fishing!
We took a bit of a run over to the islands at Easter, just me and the kids and left on Friday morning. Didnt catch Paul and Outdoinit at the jetty as I was pretty busy getting sorted and we waited an hour or 2 until the easterly dropped.
Headed straight for the Easter group this time, 40 something miles.
Spent 4 days just plodding round exploring, swimming, spearing a feed and looking at nice anchorages.
Had a quick yarn on the VHF to Paul but they were about 20 miles away.
Havent found how to get stills from the gopro movies yet though, plus my first editing attempt coincided with Paul G's last movie and I thought "no way am i putting up my attempt"!
on Easter sunday the easter bunny paid a visit, but he wasnt game to hide all 5 easter bunny cholocates on the shore in case the crabs devoured them.
So he only left 3 on the beach and 2 onboard somehow :-)
We crossed to the Southern Group for the last day to catch up with some friends at their camp and a little socialising.
Girls were pretty happy to have a BUCKET shower as opposed to my little electric one that will give us all a wash off with 6 or 7 litres
Kids watchin a movie in the cabin, keeps them out of my hair when living aboard (as opposed to on a jetty) and cooking dinner
on the last morning at a mates jetty, the two boys were up first while I was still swaggin it. Mac comes running back "dad dad theres a squid under the jetty over there can you put a squid jig on my rod"
Yawn, yeah whatever, crawl out, tie it on wander over. Mac lowers the jig down, squid grabs it and he lifts it up onto the jetty in 10 seconds.
I could see his mind tickin over thinking about all the times we chucked a jig around for nothing and thinkin "yeah dad, you know jack++t about squiding dont ya"!

Ha, paul my gopro couldnt
Ha, paul my gopro couldnt compete with yours so shelved it for now. Up at work now but got a couple of runs planned for may june.
yep kids love it, had a seal spend about 2 hours with us evening and morn at Morley. And while im wary of wild creatures especially with kids, it was impossible to mistake his actions as anything but playful curious and friendly especially to the kids. He swam up against us, sat on the bottom like a tired puppy and face to face at half a meter just looking.
In the morning he came past again but with a big seal who checked us out for 10 minutes. It was exactly like mum came over to sus us out then cruised off together, wasnt game to swim with her though.
5 minutes later little ones back for an hour.

Firstly I would like to congratulate you on being able to spell Abrolhos correctly..... something that not too many have managed lately.
Great pics too. Bet the kids dont get tired of those trips away like that.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Ha ha not all of us are lazy
Ha ha not all of us are lazy spellers Rob. Good report there. Nothing better than getting the kids involved. We've decided to buy a dinghy for the boys (gang of 5 hoods from 3 families) to have as their tear about in the next couple of years. They are planning and scheming already as to where they'll fish and their tactics. One of them will have to be old enough to have their skippers ticket. They are super keen and we want to nurture this, they know the score on the beach with size and bag limits and this will progress to the boat. Lucky buggers.
Love the West!

Nice post Rob.
I think it is about time you leave the kids at home and do a boys trip with your mates.
Max is over the Islands at the moment. he has his two girls and wife and deckie. It is going to be a very full boat.
Great photos.

thats a great idea, but
thats a great idea, but if only you knew my mates;
1/ they say its too rough
2/ theyve got a hangover
3/ theyve gotta work
4/ they forget the bait
5/ only bring one (light) beer
6/ and when the stars do line up it takes so long to get the petrol money that fuels gone up 20cents a litre
maybe the father son thing again though?

Great place
Hi Rob
Another great report and photos...the kids must hate being dragged over to the islands all the time!
Which island is featured in the second photo...the one with the nice sandy beach? Looks like you're able to go ashore there, or are you staying with friends who live there?
Can't wait to get back over to the islands.

Thats leos, very shallow so
Thats leos, very shallow so while you can get in there on high tide, your sitting on the bottom most of the time.
May for me next i think, maybe a loooong trip with my brother if he comes over.
Works getting in the way just now.

ha-you havent heard me
ha-you havent heard me yelling at them!
Looking towards a Montes trip at some stage, havent been there for 10 years though we steam around it almost on a weekly basis at work
On another note-your boat, what size is it and is it an Adam Schwetz design? as it looks very similar. At least a few of the Perth builders use his designs though rebranded

Yes well we all have those moments
when there are kids involved.. LOL
The boat is a 7.6mtr Peter Stagg built boat, not sure what plans were used??
I brought it Second Hand (2003 Built) but I repowered it with the Suzuki 300, and Now it is even better. ;-)
As for Montes I have been discussing with Paul the exact same thing, Maybe might be able to get a bit of a convoy??
