Abrolhos Trip

Made the decision am going to do Abrolhos this year, before the 2 month fishing closure.

Plan is for either 21st-25th Sept or 5th-10th October.

Anyone know what its like out that way that time of year. The trip will be completely weather dependant.

Planning on atleast 2 boats going over, but not been able to findanyone or we dont know anyone who has a shack over there i could possibly use, so for now we will be staying on the boats.

As it will be our first trip, can anyone recommend which group would be more suited given it is our first trip? Likely the northern group is out of the question given the distance and the amount of fuel we would have to carry. Info like which bays have moorings, and would be good to stay the night given the time of year we are going (winds, swell etc).

If i understand correctly your allowed on some of the islands for a visit during the day?

From a fishing perspective, could we expect any pelagic action that time of year, with the cooler waters?

Obviously we will chase the usuals, dhus, pinks, trout, baldies etc. and will check all the exclusion zones before we leave.

Cheers

Hey mate

We went up for the first time this year during easter with two boats. Would have to be one of the best trips i have done

Seeing as it is your first trip i would deffinatly just stay around the southern group, now that i have a little bit more of an idea about the place i will venture further next time

We lived on the boats for 4 days staying in the bay at Gregory island at night. The passage going in is very shallow but once in it drops right off

bring LOTS of small jigs and stickbaits!!

If you get a chance pop into the shop and spend half an hour so with me and i can share with you our experience.

Southern group

Bodie

I went early October last year- the weather turned it on for a few days. We stayed on Robertson island which isn't far from Wreck pt etc. However we had a guy who works as a deckie for the Robertson's so we were allowed on the island. That was my second trip there- previously went on a crayboat/charter at the same time of the year, but that one we stayed tied up at Big Rat.

It is very protected when you get inside some of the islands- however don't wait too late in the day as you won't be able to find some of the channels to get into a safe anchorage(not everything is on the charts). Get some very big squid at night time.

yeah plan to do some free diving ourselves.

You going to be staying on your boat?

If we stay on the boats, can probably sleep max 3 on each, so would say our numbers will be at 5 or 6 maximum.

The earlier the better, sept/october is when the southerlies start to fire up. We got belted big time one year and that was on a cray boat. once your over there are places to hide though

With this being the case,

With this being the case, would the southern group be a better option?

If southerlies come up, you would be coming back with it on your right hand corner, rather than side / fron right?

Yer would be three on boat

Yer would be three on boat ,would be sleeping on boat.I did a check yesterday on my fuel to nm and I can get out and back on less than half a tank so will take a couple of drums of fuel, but i don't think I will need them. tones of ground around southern group ,you will get all the fish you won't there without going to the northern groups.

Hey there i have been going

Hey there i have been going in Oct for the last 14 years and we catch all of your list as well as palegics if we try we do go to the northern group sometimes but i dont feel it is worth the trip although some of the dives there are great. The southern group will get you pretty much any thing you want to catch and you can use plastics jigs whatever. take some diving gear as the dives are amazing over there. But as said sometimes the wind dose make it sloppy. But im sure you will find some shelter when it dose blow up. As for staying on the islands im pretty sure you need an invite from a local. There are also plenty of sanctuaries you need to
