ACCC vs Navman

Saw this on the ACCC Website. Navman Australia has been fined $1.25m for breaches of the Trade Practices Act.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission had alleged that Navman and its employees had engaged in resale price maintenance by trying to stop retailers selling below their benchmark price.

Hi Ya, The buying public,

Hi Ya,

The buying public, the media, the interested parties like RACWA etc, and especially the Government like to point the accusatory finger at oil compaies and shout about the high price of petrol.  Now, I am not saying that the oil companies don't make good profits from the sale of petrol, but just remember that more than half of the price of a litre of petrol is tax.  That means that the government is probably making 300% or 400% more out of petrol than the oil companies are and tehy don't make any direct investment in the production of it.

No wonder government s keen to keep the spotlight on the oil companies.

Cheers.

Every 10 days the rig I am

Fri, 2008-01-04 06:13

Every 10 days the rig I am on makes $55,000,000 and one beside us makes $105,000,000 (5 in total by 2009) just in crude exports and they are loving it. And I am here trying to raise funds to support my family and fill my 2 cars and boat? weird hey!

If you can work out how many oil producers are on our coast line just times that by lots of zeros.
This rig was designed on $40US a barrel 2 years ago but now theres $60US of just purely profit, both the oil companys and Gov can both take a hit or put more money into alternate energy sources.

The prediction is that it will move to the $2 a litre in Perth so brace yourself and ask your employer for a pay rise just to get you to work.

Just imagine the cost in fuel to go on that lovely fishn trip to Exxy!

Check out the price of LPG at the moment, its criminal when this is just a waste gas but we all sit back and take a hit in the back pocket.

We are a developed nation but think about all the undeveloped ones that will have an increased demand on this resource.

I some times feel sorry for us Aussies as we sell every thing off what will be here for our childerns future! a hole in the ground?

The scary thing is that at the moment Karratha gas plant has been crippled by a electrical fault
and on the same day in perth you are asked to turn your air conditioners off !!!
Where will the power come from when we are a sold out State!!

Think about this

Fri, 2008-01-04 07:36

To undertake a seismic survey to hopefully find somewhere you might be able to drill for oil or gas costs a minimum of $10 million. To drill a well, with at best a one in four chance of finding anything, would cost about the same. To prove up any drilling success would require a minimum of at least three further appraisal wells, at $2 million to $5 million each. To develop a successful field costs upwards of a billion dollars. The there is the refining costs, distribution costs, and of course all the taxes. End result, we pay $1.40 a litre. Yet, a lite of milk costs about the same price. How much does it cost to buy a cow and give it a feed. And what about the fancy bottled water? In most cases it is tap water run through a filter. How much does a litre of bottled water cost?
Just a thought
