To the amber liquid appreciators here

 Hi all.

Just curious whether any other amber liquid loving forumites have tried a drop called Feral Hop Hog (I think it's a pale ale)?

If so, was your experience the same as mine - the stuff is bloody horrible and should be called feral Pig swill lol.

I was given a 4 pack of this putrid stuff at Xmas and I couldn't get half way through 1 stubbie and I can usually drink most beers / ales.

Just interested in anyone else's experience

got to agree with makai, I'm a pale ale man myself and love the ipa's, hop hog is especially good out of the tap.

American Pale Ale

Thu, 2017-01-12 13:57

As the name suggests the "Hop Hog" is beer that has a large focus in showcasing the flavour and aroma profiles of the hops used. It is made in american pale ale style which is quite a loose category of beers that are loaded with hoppy bitterness, some good, some excellent and some not so much. I personally think the hop hog is a good balanced sessionable beer. If you want to see the otherside of what hoppy beers can offer maybe give something a go like the Stone and Wood Pacific Ale a go this is quite floral and smooth and full flavoured. But hey thats the love of drinking frothtys! like fishing not everyone is Daiwa or Shimano its all about personal preffernce.

Might have to give it a taste test , though just seen it’s $60 for 16 stubs that’ll send me broke pretty quick and put me to bed early at 5.8% . Think I’ll stick with my boring Coopers mild ale for my daily beer or two . My worst tasting beers to date would be Corona ( though just bearable with lime ) and it’s a pretty safe bet Export cans will still be in the fridge until the perpetrator who put them there returns .

Try James Squires' 150 Lashes.  I must say the hopped beers ( Plale ales) spoil you for swill like Carlton Dry, etc. And don't even get me started on bloody Corona, anything which requires a bit of fruit jammed down its gob to make it palateable is below consideration.

Corona

Thu, 2017-01-12 15:20

From what I have read a couple of years back corona came in last as far as a good tasting beers go. Yet it confounds its critics by being a very popular selling beer.
They (corona) have a very good sales persons.

A beer I really liked was fosters light ice I thought it was a really good tasting beer, you don't see it on sale any more shame.

I'm now more of a white wine drinker the likes of Mascarto and such.

I am partial to a Hop's Thief, Fat Yak or 150 Lashes on tap and have picked a local pub near us for dinner just for the Newcastle Brown on tap but stubbie wise lately Asahi has been hovering around the $45-50 mark and I've been lapping it up.

Just picked up a carton of Coopers pale ale for around $45.  375 ml .  Asahi and Boags premium have to be some of the best but touching $50 these days.   So many reasonable good euro beers for around $39-$42 such as Becks, Heinekin, Grolsch or Stella.

With you. All this taste stuff and aroma stuff is for snobby wine drinkers, to me a ice cold beer is for drinking, not swirling, snorting, sniffing etc.
Always seem to get a present at Xmas of a mixture of premium beers - best of them is Sapporo or Asahi. You can keep the rest and I wont pay for any of them.

Fri, 2017-01-13 09:56

There's something about reaching into an ice cold esky on Australia Day and pulling out an ice cold VB that brings a smile to me face. Conversely there's also nothing like taking a swig of a warm VB that's been sitting there in the sun while you've been playing backyard cricket. How can VB be both the nectar of the gods and the work of satan all in one bottle.

I'm with ya there mate, it's nothing more than VB in a fancier bottle. It came out when CUB were introducing new brands like Carlton Draught etc and priced at 150% of their other beers and somehow everyone looked at it as some kind of 'prestige' beer to be rolled out at xmas, impress friends at BBQs or provide to tradie mates who did a job for you.

Haha I can't recall making one single post of this forum that was classy in any way, shape or form. If it makes you feel any better I have 7 VBs and 12 Cooper's Green in my fridge right now along with a long neck of Cooper's Red.

I grew up in a classy little suburb you may have heard of a few times during Crimestoppers called Ballajura. VB was widely known in our neck of the woods as Very Ballajura as that was our staple along with 10 buck bags. The best thing about VB is that you leave it in someone's fridge and it's there waiting for you when you come back a month or so later.

I'm willing to bet my left nut that you were a Hahn Ice drinker back in the early 90's Timboon!
