Yeah I reckon it is about time I got out there and caught a few of the tasty buggers myself.
Might hit the sound up for a quick squid sesh after a troll this weekend.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Winter
Winter seems to be the go in the sound. I guess it'll start picking up week by week now. Good luck, wish I could be doing it myself.
The best reason for doing what's right today is tomorrow.

Hey mate,
Finaly got back into the squidding last night in freo and got nine myself and my mate got four.
The numbers are alright its just the size. All of the ones we got were perfect bait size. Should be some good ones coming through this winter hopefully. I got them around freo.

plucked about 15 Sunday morning as well as a few crabs , hezzas , whiting and gardies .
All in 4 or 5 drifts . one was a 42cm tube , i think the biggest i have seen in the sound!

Hi fellas,
Would anyone be nice enough to give some general tips on how to get them from a boat in the sound. Me and my brother took my tinny out for the first time in the sound the other week but as sad as it is to admit we had no idea how we were meant to target them from a boat. We've always got them from jetty's etc where you can see them follow the jig in. Pretty new to the boating side of things but would appreciate any advice as i would love to get a feed of fresh squid!!
Cheers, Steve

sstevee, Just dift over the
sstevee, Just dift over the shallower weed beds out from woodies, or over towards carnac island.
Depth only needs to be 2-4 metres usually, altho some are in the deeper waters.
Similar to gettign them from the jettys, allow your jig to sink close to the bottom and use the same technique that you use to get them form jettys.
In some cases you can just cast out a jig and put the rod in a holder and a squid will jump on too.
