anyone know what this bouy is?

Was out off the back of carnac the other day and saw this bobbing around...

seemed to be attached to the sea floor as it would go under when the swell passed (was only about 1-15m deep)

no lights or anything on it

just wondering what it could be?

Probably is as Mark says but it looks pretty small for that and should be lit, and shouldnt be going under

I was confused what it was when I went out last time. Been out there for awhile - at least 4 weeks... Needs to have a light on it.

yeah was nice and spikey on top

if you didnt see it and somehow got on top of it in a swell it could do a bit of damage

definately agree that it needs a light

I've had a quick look and can't see anything listed in notices to marines and as a side issue official buoys usually have lights on them.

Power generator

Wed, 2016-07-06 21:32

looks the same as the wave power generator bouys that are positioned behind garden island , but the should have cardinal markers around it to stop boats hitting it , unless it's dragged it anchor , maybe pass the info onto the local VMR groups for indentification before it does get run down

No idea what it is but

No idea what it is but sounds like a buoy that's dragged its ground tackle to a depth where there's zero scope on the rope/chain.

If it is in port limits and registered there is no requirement for it to be illuminated. Stupid rule imo but that's the way it goes unfortunately
