around carnac/garden island this morning

quiet day, my mate caught this squid in the first couple of casts. What is the cod esque thing in the middle image?

...at least that's what I've always known them as! When I see them diving they are quite aggresive/territorial and will come out and charge anything that comes near their patch, regardless of how big it is.

Went out with Till yesterday
Went out with Till yesterday and got pretty much exactly the same catch. One good sized squid and that same black fish. They are really irredescent blue on on the bottom of their fins. Took a soft plastic, so they're definately territorial/aggressive.

murky water in most spots
but it was ok in the lee of the island for a while.
We always catch those rock/weed cod too, seen some really big ones lately, but never eaten one.
