Assassin 7m Island cab

Gents,

After some info from people in the know regarding this hull, it has 2x90 2007 e-tecs with 300 hours on each. Slightly concerned about the age of the motors, but not too concerned.
Would be nice to know where Assassin sits in the pecking order in regards to ride.. or if any guys have had a similar hull..

Thanks in advance

I like this boat, it's been for sale for a while, so might be able to snap up a bargain ocause I bet they hanging to move it..I hear they ride pretty good, I'm in the market for same sort of boat but leaning towards centre cab  rather than console..but yer like you motors have me worried as not heard good from etecs...I'd say they be ok just been looked over apparently, but I'd get independent to go over it... Let us know how ya go

if your into glass there's a nice 7m commodore cc on boat sales with 225 Honda for about 68k

After speaking with a few

Tue, 2016-03-29 18:15

After speaking with a few different marine mechanics, seemingly it is the HO etecs(+200HP)that have all the issues. I had a 2008 250HP with less than 300hrs which cost us thousands in repairs. I wouldn't buy Etec again purely out of principle and not to mention boats are twice as hard to sell as most buyers see E-tecs as anchors these days. All of these 2007/2008 motors were all put on back when they first came out with all the hype and marketing (pulling yam 4 strokes backwards ect) you don't see many new ones around these days compared to 4 strokes.

In saying that seeing these are 90's and it's a twin set-up you will have a fair bit of redundancy offshore. If I were you I'd work out what I think the hull/trailer is worth, then add ~4-4.5k for each motor and see where you end up compared to the asking price.

If you can get it for a good deal, even consider trading them in on a new 200-250HP 4 banger.

can't comment on the ride, but for a 7m job it shouldn't be too bad for a plate boat.

Thanks mate, the old man is fairly old fashioned and likes the idea of 2x2strokes.. ITs the age of them that concerns me. definerly not worth asking price

Plenty of hate for the e-tecs, spoke to my mechanic and he didn't seem that concerned besides service pricing. What sort of issues are guys experiencing?

I have a mate who has had

I have a mate who has had issues (engine cutouts and running rough) for over a year. Last response from Evinrude was basically "there is nothing more we can do, please don't contact us regarding this issue".
That email alone, regardless of the issue, is irreprehensible.
If it was me, I would publish the email, but the Gman is a little more cool headed.....

I have an Assassin 660. A bit

I have an Assassin 660. A bit older than this one. Can't fault the ride or construction. Solid boat. Not sure why 2 90's when one 200 or 175 would do. Seems to be a good price.

Have you been for a drive. I would say twin 90 on that size boat would be underpowered. i put 700hrs on my 90hp etec and no probs at all. As long as they check out they should be fine. They do use a bit of oil but they are economical and great hole punch. Oh and they do smell if you travelling down wind.

I had the newer 660 dhufish not long ago great boats ride nice but is the newer hull to this one with the huge reverse chimes. The 660 was about a 7.3mtr boat would be same size maybe a bit smaller than this one. I had a etec 200ho and it went ok but felt it needed a bit more horsepower when it big seas. Apart from that great boats.

i have a mate with an older assassin and find in any chop it bangs pretty bad. Could be they way the boats set up or how he drives it but i wont go out with him.

Had sea trail set up for

Wed, 2016-03-30 14:05

Had sea trail set up for Monday, but I'd say it will be canned. I agree with it being under powered, plus just speaking to dealers is breaking my balls. Thanks for all the input gents
