Autopilot Question

Has anyone hooked up an autopilot system to a lowrance HDS 8/10??

AM under th impression it will have to be a raymarine autopilot unit?

does this mean that the Plotter must also be a raymarine unit?

thanks in advance

Matter?

Don't think it matters what system as long as it has a NMEA? input / output wire. Most auto pilots can work as a stand alone unit with out the need to run through a GPS , you just have to make adjustments to counter drift/ tide etc manually.

We are currently fitting a Furuno auto pilot to our old rescue vessel and that is going to run through a Navman GPS

I think to get the most out of it, you may as well look at the Raymarines with the e125/e127 is as low as $2k.

For your boat, you can use the Raymarine SPX-5, with the P70R head, it should get you out of trouble for another $2k (prices in USD).

Once you have auto pilot, You do NOT want to go without!

The steering wheel is only to get in and out of the launch ramp.

You need to have or install hydraulic steering for it to work as the Auto pilot Hydr. pump steers the boat/keeps it on course.

Rudder feedback unit or Virtual Rudder feedback is also part of the setup.

You also need a dedicated autopilot compas to be mounted away from Electro Magnetic  interference  and preferable in the centreline of your boat to get it to operate the best.

I would inquire with a dealer who supports Simrad/Lowrance if Lowrance/Simrad have a system that is compatible with your unit.

Actually nearly right.

The Raymarine kit I mention fits over the helm, you don't use a pump.

The s1000 has the pump

The s1000 has the pump included in the kit. For the price you could nearly include a new hydraulic steering kit and still be under $2000....
