Axiom

I was going to post this on my other new sounder shopping thread but it probably deserves it's own topic.

Comments anybody?

The iminent release from RM looks interesting. Competitive price, one transducer for most applications, and the big one for me is gyro sensor built into the 3D transduser with a very powerful processor built into the unit to output the roll, pitch and yaw compinsated picture all in 3D.

If this works anything like they are sprooking I will probably go for it. The problem as usual is the only thing you ever see is demos from yanks fishing in shallow flat lakes in the states.

 Gyro looks interesting. Only

 Gyro looks interesting.

Only 600w single channel chirp built in though so you will need an additional sonar module to drive existing/new 1kw trannys.

Not quite up with the existing Garmin 74xx XSV series with the 1kw dual channel sonar module built in

 Interesting

Mon, 2017-07-24 16:27

 Interesting update:

www.raymarine.com/multifunction-displays/axiom-pro/pro9/

Has the things that I thought were missing from Axiom

  • Dial and button controls
  • Better resolution 9" screen
  • both 1 Kw sonar and 3D

Could be the catalist for my upgrade!

axiom

I have the axiom 12 inch with real vision mounted on my boat . They are fully available in the U.S, in Aus they are on back order . My  experience so far ,Ulta fast updates on the screen with the quad core processor. Real vision 3d sidescan for fishfinding ,a game changer. It does what the infomercials claim. The screen is bright with ulta fast processing and one of the simplest menus i have used . You can navigate thru menus while in the  home screen. The 650 watt transducer has its limitations re depth as to be expected hower it does punch out a very good signal for its power class. The transducer is very slick and does read the bottom properly at 45km per hr. The 1kw Axiom pro will be available  late sept in the U.S and later in Aus but comes with a much higher price tag of $6700 a lot of extra money for the extra 350 watts, it will be cheaper to have  the standard Axiom and add a 1kw stand alone transducer and sonar module . Its intersting that Furuno dff3d is only using 750 watts in its new side vision version. For any one interested i am selling an Axiom 12 inch RV for $4500 with aus nz navinics chip. The reason for sale is  i originally purchased two units one for my self and one for a friend who has not come up with the cash. Full Australian warranty and is in the box was never mounted. I do not hesitate in recomending this unit great bang for the buck especially for locating fish in the sidescan .

Hi Squalis, Where are you

Tue, 2017-07-25 13:17

Hi Squalis, Where are you located?

How deep have you tried the realvision 3D?

What size boat do you have it on?

What type and where is you Realvision transducer mounted?

I could be interested in the MFD but it is also the buttons and dial that I like.

I'm not sure I could fit a 12" in my boat but it would be nice. I like the fact that the new 9" pro has a much higher res screen than the standard Axiom 9 which is a scaled up version of the 7" with the same resolution. I'm thinking the 9" pro would work perfectly in my boat. I'd be interested to see how well the Gyro stuff really works in average conditions in the real world in Perth Metro waters.

Axiom

Tue, 2017-07-25 21:01

The Axiom unit is on a 6.5 caribbean reef runner deep v glass. The deepest so far has been 86 meters please check with raymarine for the max depth. The 3d works properly at this depth with an effective search width of 70 meters of water colum either side so instead of a small search area from traditional sounders you have 140 meter search zone great for finding new country and also suspended fish. The gyro stabilisation really works well , i have a furuno 1150 with heave compensation and the raymarine works well by comparison at less than half the cost. The ultimate system is the furuno dff3d but with a price tag of $6500 for the sounder  module and $9500 for the tz 14 head unit is well beyond the ordinary bloke. The raymarine is a scaled down version but offers a realistic alternative at a more affordable price. No doubt all the other manufacturers will follow suit. and copy . The hull truth had a post that the U.S navy has purchased 2000 axiom units i cant think of a more qualified endorsement. My transducer is transom mounted and the design is real slick for the first time i have a transom mount that can display a readable image at speed unlike the 1kw transducers that have limited speed  effectiveness. Gyro stability really works well in our rough waters. The 12 inch glass bridge design has a vey small footprint and takes up less space its really quite compact .
