Bait in Cockburn Sound

Was out trolling for tailor in the sound yesterday dispite the howling winds and came across massive bait schools being smashed by birds but still no tailor!! Up north where i live there would have been fish everywhere but i could not see a single fish hitting the bait......WHY?

Thought that but did some sounding around and no sign of life. The bait schools were huge in diameter and about 10-14 m deep

saw some bloody big bait balls in the sound last weekend as well, when on our way to dropping the pots.

Right on the drop offs. either had to be scalies or mulies / pilchards.

just near the grain terminal on thursday last week! but they were only getting attacked by the gulls! they stayed around our boat for nearly an hour! i tried lures through them a bait even jagged one and put it on a gang and let it drift down and still nothing! im predicting something big will happen soon! either a major school of tailor and herring or maybe even bonito!

to see those huge schools of bait. Take a dive on the D9 barge some time and you'll see the masses of scalies and chopper tailor. I rarely bother casting on the schools any more as theres been only a few occasions where i have been sucessful and landed good size talior or salmon. I have seen though mulie boats hauling plenty of mulloway, tailor and spanyards.

If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.
