bait in the feezer

hey guys I am just wondering because I have a lot of bait in my freezer from about 2 months ago because I never get to use it sometimes. When your fishing for dhuies and stuff does it always have to be fresh bait and does bait go off after a while and loose its scent ? if so could you guys please give me your opinion's.

Bought bait is already badly

Bought bait is already badly handled and frozen late so it wont last too long. (cali squid for instance.... frozen and imported by ship prob a month old b4 it hits the perth shop)
as long as it's not "rank" think it will still catch fish but the fresher the better in my opinion.

if Mulies etc ....same... as long as not "off" at least use for berly

if you catch you own...squid etc and freeze it your self it 'll last for many months.

cant beat fresh unfrozen squid for bait

Fresh bait will usually be ok

Fresh bait will usually be ok for up to 6 months except river prawns which are usually buggered after 3-4 months. Hard to say for frozen bait, depends haw long it's been sitting around before you got your hands on it, could be good for 6 months could be stuffed after 2 weeks.

Anything older than 2 or 3

Anything older than 2 or 3 months goes for chum. But yeah anything fresh is best. All our fish from yesterday were caught on sgt Baker except for the Baldy on Cali squid.

like I said ...think it is how it's processed.

eating fish are bled put on ice straight away ...filleted and quite often vac sealed.
(this makes a massive difference to how long it will last in your freezer)

Most don't do this with bait.
