Bait storage
Submitted by dogsoldier on Sun, 2007-11-11 12:30
Catching a bit of bait at the moment for future outwide fishing trips in the past the bait has been getting dryed out even though it is being kept in the freezer in snaplid containers any suggestions to preserve the quality of the bait or what I am doing wrong or need to buy and where to buy it

I find that when I jave caught sand whiting for bait to put a bit of salt water into either the cryovac on snap lid containers before freezing , seems to not let the bait dry out or either salt them down in pool salt

i find using pool salt
i find using pool salt better because of the course grains , also the cryo vacs are good for when you have some steak to do just add the marinade into the bag and when its vacked out the marinade gets deeper into the actual meat , i got my machine from a butcher that was closing down , whiting salt great and make good deep water whole baits as they hold on a lot better a big depths

Salting your baits works
Salting your baits works great if your heading up north as they dont need the same refridgeration that fresh/frozen baits will.
Dry them out with salt and pack them with some fish oil and you have your long life whiting/herring/gardies that stay on the hook a little better and the fish love em.
