Bait tips- anything baits please add your hints on keeping, presentations rigging

I thought I would post a few things I have do, anyone else adding theirs would be good.
Some of this is second nature to some but might help others.

Keep your meat trays when you buy meat from your supermarkets. These are great for laying your fresh caught Gardies, Scalies etc on and putting in the freazer.
Add 5 - 8 per tray and cover with cling wrap. Keeps them nice and straight and easy to seperate. Easy to stack in the freezer and if its a quick fish you only need to take 1 or 2 trays.
Also lets you keep your other bait in the fridge/freezer/icebox while fishing making it last a bit longer.

I keep my bait fresher by seperating them and packing in containers when I purchase it.
I save my dispaosable take away containers and use these to split my bait into.

Buy good pillies that are loose in the bag and pack as many as I can into each container.
This way you again keep most of your baits as cold as possible and only bring out 1 container at a time to use.
This is also very handy if there is nothing biting, you can 90% of the time bring leftover baits home and put back in the freezer without the baits starting to spoil.

When land based fishing I though the engil in the car and have it on freezer, again this keeps bait fresher longer and is the fishing shit, just bring it home adn pack it away again.

Helps keeps costs down when fishing.

When you are away for a few days with just an esky for your bait, take a big bag of salt and salt your bait down.
Helps them turning to mush and stops the going of in your esky.

Hope this helps a few and if you have in more tips on presentation rigging keeping bait add them below.

Cheers

presentation

I always do a half hitch around the tail of my mulie or pillie when putting on snelled hooks, helps with presentation and getting the bait to sit nicely.

Single hook squid

If you want to present a whole squid on a single hook, pass the entire hook through the mantle and out the other side, including the eye of the hook, then line up the eye with the hole you just made and pass the hook through and back out the same side so that the shank of the hook sits on the outside of the bait keeping it straight, this keeps the top of the mantle folding down over the hook and hiding your hook point. The hook point will be very pronounced and add to hook up percentages. Finish with a half hitch if you like, as Adam suggested and you have a very well presented bait.

I noticed last night that if you want to thaw a totally iced mulie quickly just drop it in the sand for a miniute or two. I was amazed at how quickly it thawed after accidentlay dropping it.

thawing

I really dislike having thawed out mulies because I find the smaller fish just suck them off the hooks.  I much prefer putting out a frozen mulie and letting it soak and defrost that way.  Gives the bigger fish time to find your bait and by that time its fresh and ready to be eaten.  Just my personal preference.
