Beach Camping North of Perth
Submitted by Browndog on Wed, 2014-10-22 10:16
Hi FW Crew.
Hoping to get out of the rat race for a couple of days in early November and do some camping on a beach, looking for somewhere we can throw a line in shore based, have a campfire and relax a bit. Was thinking North of Perth (say Lancelin or Jurien?) but open to suggestions. Would prefer to stay away from the caravan parks and just rough it.
Any suggestions on locations?
Cheers,
BD.

Sandy Cape is a good spot.
Sandy Cape is a good spot. About 10 kms north of Jurien. You pay the ranger a bit of money and camp pretty close to the beach. It's probably the only non-caravan park spot that your actually allowed to camp at.
Another good spot is Hill River, between Jurien and Cervantes. Your not technically allowed to camp there, but as long as you have a line in the water and don't set up a full blown camp, the ranger will probably let you stay there.
There is also Wedge and Gray, but the rangers really don't like people staying there unless they have a shack.

fire season
is over by then, usually no camp fires allowed anywhere but it all depends on whether the ranger comes along.

In my experience...
If you want a camp site at Sandy Cape for the weekend - get there Thursday morning.

Gas
Yeah, I have the gas cooker & not worried about the cold, but find a fire & a few beers really makes the atmosphere!
Plus a great way to burn your sausages, bacon etc.

Yep. No fires in the shire
Yep. No fires in the shire of Dandarigan (sp?) after 1st of November.
if you go to Sandy Cape, email the ranger and get permission. They can allow you to camp outside the camping areas (north or south) basically right on the beach.

Thanks Swompa, that sounds the go. Shame about the fire, but I can understand the reasons.
Sounds like a plan.
