Behind Garden/Carnac Island
Submitted by Stev0 on Wed, 2008-10-22 16:47
Hey guys, I'm thinking of taking a trip out the back of garden/carnac to five fathom or there abouts tomorrow and was wondering if there's much out there in terms of snapper/dhu's, if so how far out should I go and to what depths?
Cheers,
Stevo.

Memo
Didn't you get Dr St John's Memo? There's hardly any snapper and dhu's left... and the few that remain are all going to be decimated this summer....
Wouldn't bother mate...

Stevo, the lumps in the 20-28m mark on the west edge of FFB is good. You need to find these lumps and anchor/berley. I fish there during the daytime and leading up to sundown...i've got some good fish there lately but you need to put in the hours!

There are still good fish amongst the bucket loads of Wrasse and Sambo's... as has been mentioned, it's a patience/waiting game... FFB is hit and miss in my experience...
Only thing I can offer is use some fresh bait... occy/squid/wrasse/sgt baker... that's half the job done IMO

So its much better to berly
So its much better to berly it up than to look for a decent drift?

depending!
If your fishing the FFB itself i anchor & berley. If you want to drift then as Mako Magic said go out further and drift. Fish any broken ground & lumps......pay close attention to your sounder as oftin its small stuff and look at 30-40m!

Great place to fish.
All along the back of the bank is good.
Look for broken ground, anchor and burley.
I have caught my biggest snappers that way.
Fish around 30m mark. Never caught a dhuie on or around the bank but have heard of them being caught there.
