bent st boat ramp

the Rockingham coastal engineer finally got back to me with what is happening to the Bent st boat ramp today, the dredging is planed to start next month with two channels to be dredged , it is planned that the dredging will take 12 weeks , I asked why it had taken so long and he said he had personally been working on the plan 3 years but in all 5 years had gone into getting it to happen , the hold up has been caused by getting all the environmental approval's (fair enough but 5 years???).Well at least it is finally going to happen , he also told me he will email me a copy of the signage that will be erected as soon as he has the final ok on that and the notice to mariner's when he does I will post it

thats good news
I suppose, but if they can organize a dredge to dredge a 300m trench why the hell cant they organize a welder to fix the stupid cleats on the point perron ramp, it's bullshit and they have had enough correspondence about it

In those five years...
...how many times did the Rockingham councilors go to Japan to visit their "sister city" at the ratepayers' expense? Dredging the channel is the LEAST they could do.

mmm and they all forget the main reason its silting up ( and we lost turn island -which was a marine bird sanctuary) is due to the sand dredged out from point peron ,they dumb on penquin island ,to replace the beach, which washes away in winter- wheres the sense ???

he is saying the only reason
it needs dredging in the first place is because of the sand thast is removed from peron ramps has washed up around turn island and made it land locked now which meens no water flow through there like there used to be ,so dredging will be a waste off time as the sand from point peron that gets dumped on penguin island will fill the new channel in no time ,they need to stop dumping sand and get rid of the sand bar acroos turn island first

sorry mate didnt
sorry didn't understand at first thought you were having a crack at me the worst thing about this hold saga is that the dredging will only be effective for 3 to 5 years and we will be back to were we are now as quoted to me by the rocky costal engineer yesterday

And to back up little Johhny
if you go to www.landgate.wa.gov.au you can see historical ariel images of the perth area back as far as 1963 or 53
just put in bent st saftey bay as your address then tick the dates on the left....very interesting indeed and long before
the point perron ramp, or houses for that matter!
edit: sorry should have added click map viewer to get to the ariel shots

vinnie
at the moment if you don't launch at high tide you will struggle to get out the whole channel beside turn island is silted up you can go left from the ramp but if you have a good size boat (even mine a smaller boat) you have to be very carful or you will be chopping up the bottom luckily its just sand

most of the coastal
most of the coastal processes they undertake i imagine are well known by them to be a temporary fix. Sand always moves places with currents and longshore drift. if they dredge sand and move it somewhere else (ie a beach that dissapears in the next storm) its usually because the social value of having a temporary beach outweighs the costs it places on ratepayers or taxpayers.
