best line choice/ Penn 310 GTi to be used for bottom bashing/trollin/jigging
Submitted by hekser on Sun, 2010-11-07 21:46
just got a Penn 310 GTI on ebay from the states 2nd hand 70$ delivered.. seemed liek a good diea.. wondering what people would reccomend spooling it with. im leaning more towards mono- 50/80lb as i mainly want it for trolling, tuna maybe some macks... braid doesnt have as much stretch they say? should put 100m 80lb mono backing then 50lb braid with a 80lbmono leader? suggestions?
cheers

Hekser work out what you
Hekser work out what you will be doin 90% of the time then by the line that best suits your need. Or by a second reel and have one for braid one for mono.
On a side not If its the level wind model take level wind off. It will only cause you trouble.

You pretty much can't jig on mono, so leave that off your list.

ahah k
well its mainly a trolling line i got some halco laser pro 190s king brown and chrome pink im thinking its not a bad idea to troll these around rotto :p so it will be mainly trolling 90% better to load the whole thing with mono? i was thinking braid then topshot 100m 80lb ? im thinking if spool mono only- about 50lb mono , is that ok for what i might pick up on a laser pro? what size leader would i want 100lb ?
i'm noob when it comes to boat fishing. i only ever seem to get wrasse.. different methods of fishing should get different fish *fingerscrossed* any info appreciated :D
cheers

Hekser I'd drop to 15kg mono
Hekser I'd drop to 15kg mono if mainly for trolling. It will give you more line capacity and is more than enough to handle what is around perth. Brands like streng Gold or berkely big game are good lines. 100lb leader is fine. Maybe try a few skirts as well.

Not sure about that last
Not sure about that last comment. 310 is not a big reel. Won't get too much 15kg Mono on there. I would stick to 30lb braid with a long mono leader if trolling. They don't have much of a drag to take advantage of much heavier than that anyway.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Yep great reels for the
Yep great reels for the price but pe8 on a stradic 8000?? Firstly you would get bugger all line on and the drag cap. for the reel would not justify such a heavy line class IMO.
