Best sources of weather information
Submitted by davewillo on Mon, 2024-12-16 17:30
The post below regarding swell prompted me to ask where people think the best sources of accurate wind and wave data can be found. I have had really accurate stuff from Willy Weather but also have seen it say the wind at Hillarys boiat harbour is 4 knots when it is very clearly a lot more than that! Most of us probably compare a number of sources so I'm interested in hearing.
Cheers

i usually use a combo of seabreeze, willyweather and also have stsarted using windy.
i find seabreeze quite often seems to underestimate things lol. so far have been pretty impressed with windy, and tend to go with windy and willyweather the most
this dilemna is kinda what prompted my question about tuesday to begin with as looking at seabreeze doesnt look too bad, yet looking at bom, looks horrendous. i typically err on the side of caution and if one or more are showing unfavourable cnditons i play it safe and either stay close or dont go.

We use "Windy" and look at all forecast models on there. You can look at all the forecast models and make judgement from there. ECMWF is said to be the most accurate and is the standard model Windy uses. BOM and Willy use Access which you can see for your area you plan to fish.
it also has wave information (seas and swell) plus all the other stuff like rain etc.
been pretty accurate in the past and looking at all models gives you some sort of confidence in predicted wind patterns.

forecast
The most accurate is Predict wind a British global forecast system. I fished commercially for 43 years and got sick of local forcasts and thier inaccuracies, they have a free versionwhich is far more reliable. Give ita try.
