Big Pinks
Submitted by Noxious on Tue, 2012-10-09 09:35
G'day
Mate bought a share in a new rig. Catch is the boat lives down in busso and we are both Perth lads. Never mind.
Anyway, we thought we would go give the new tub a bash. Neither of us had ever fished Busso at all.
Morning started off a little slow. At 11:30 we pulled up these two pinks. Mine went bang on 100cm and just shy of 11kg. Mates was 80 something (not sure on weight). THe extra 20 odd cm made a big difference in weight of the fish. Mine gave me an absolute belting fight in 23m of water.
Biggest pink I've ever caught.
Needless to say, I'm a big fan of busso now ;)
Were ~20km off shore in ~23m of water.
Few pics.

Was happy to get such a big pink just before the demersal ban.
Now to focus on some river mulloway.

Both fish were caught by
Both fish were caught by drift baiting a large pilcharded on two snelled circle hooks.
Basically the exact same set up as what Ryan Thipthorp uses. Two snelled hooks, ball sinker, crimp, leader to swivel. Nice and easy and effective.
Only problem was some birds that were making a nuisance of themselves.

Yeah mate, I'm absolutely
Yeah mate, I'm absolutely stoked. I think it will be a PB that will remain for quite some time. 10.98kg, what a horse!
I felt a bit bad taking it home in the esky. The only thing that helped me sleep at night is that it was caught off busso and not in the sound right before the spawning closure.

Thanks guys. The conditions
Thanks guys.
The conditions were mint. Hardly any wind, a little bit of rolling swell later on in the day, but it wasn't an issue.

Thanks for the comments guys.
Ryan - The 20 odd cm, made a massive difference in girth and also in the fight of each fish. I actually owe you a thank you, the information I have gotten from watching you on Fishing WA and this forum has been invaluable to me, thanks mate. Need a new trolling outfit for the boat, will have to come down and get you to sort me out at your shop.
