Away
Needed to be away from other boats mate. The fergles hunt in packs and with every wood duck under the sun hooking up around they are getting g free meals. We didn't see one shark for our macks today on Reefwalker. Out in the 40's today had no problem.

Sailfish fought and lost
A local mate competing had a sail on for 1.5 hrs on 4kg, lost it boatside. What Rob says about the sharks would be correct, if an area is being heavily fished, they will certainly aggregate.

Seems to be more billfish
Seems to be more billfish there than people realise. A guy tagged one and dropped another in that comp a couple of years ago.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

there have always been a few around.
Marlin, some quite substantial, have been caught or lost over the years. lance55 hooked one not long back down off the cliffs. I lost a sail only a few K's from the rivermouth 2 years ago. Everyone who has lived here any length of time has their billfish stories. The last great unexplored billfish potential in Australia, IMO, would be 100 nm NW of here, out around the volcano. I think it comes down to the fact that most people are trolling hard plastic, which is not the best way to tempt them. Or to stay hooked up, either, particularly if you are using trebles. You can't really mix skirts with bibbed, as the speed is generally too slow, although I have mixed skirts with bibless with success elsewhere. The sails come down when the tide runs warm from the north--it's only 110 nm to Steep Point, and they are always up there.

West
Remember that day pulling the gear out wide Ralph when saw that dive bomber hanging round then saw that big bill come up thrash n back down again.
They are there you just need those ulta rare days when you can commit to going out there and putting the hours into pulling the plastic around. And as we know when it turns ugly out there hug the winch and hold on!!!
Uncle the bronzies are thick in that shallow stuff you have to look out a the box a bit when you start losing lures. Look at Robbie leck. 17 lures!! FFS alarm bell get out a there and go out away from any hookups around you.

Yes, seen a few
I remember that one, and the time a sail was poking at one of my red three floaters--another time, on the old boat, we were heading home after a camp out up the top, on a glass calm. Old deckie was on the wheel, I was asleep. He saw a tern trying to hover over something right in our path. Stood up on the seat and poked his head out the hatch, just in time to see what he described as a huge marlin move away. 30 F off the North Sandpatch. Marlin tangled in ropes on Big Bank, wetliners hooking them on Alvey's--and the broadbill we recovered, washed up on Oyster Reef, still alive. That marlin ( is it still there?)over the bar at the pub was caught locally.

A kayaker hooked a Sail just off the point at the Bluff yesterda
It swam right next to his yak and he threw a gardie rigged on 4kg at it and it casually scoffed the gardie and went mental on the surface before scorching away and busting off :). It was great to meet you guys Uncle - not bad blokes for Collingwood supporters lol.
