Brake Back Trailers??

Hey all,

I'm currently searching the market for a decent little tinny somethin around 4.5 to 5 meters. I am pretty keen to do some beach launching with it and was wondering everyones opinion on brake back trailers. I have beach launched boats before but never with this sort of set up...

Is it worth getting???? Anyone with previous experience with em? good or bad?

My old man has one but he has an old heavy 19ft fiberglass and even then half the time we haven't used the break back anyway.. I would think for a lighter tinny you'd hardly need it? Definately helps when the beach is shallow though.

from memory they cant be built anymore ..

good idea but pointless on a lighter boat .. just get a multi roller with the pivoting rollers at the back and youll have no issues

Hi Mate,

I have a 5 metre ally boat and i do a lot of beach launches on soft south coast beaches and i'm yet to have an issue with the trailit trailer that I have, which isn't a brake back. Good idea for some cases i guess but with a boat like you are looking at it isn't neccessary.

Cheers Carps

Drawbar

An extendable draw bar could be a good solution ringy35, will keep the vehicle that bit more out of the water OR the trailer deeper in the water.

Would need to be fairly well engineered though for a 5m boat.

Trailer

Agree with ppl above, I have a heavy glass boat and the trailer breaks but hardly ever, in most cases it wont be needed, would consider an extension to the draw bar if I was using from the beach often to keep the car dry

Both

I have modified a couple trailers with both. The best one i did , I made a fold out extension bar for extra length for launching, and i placed the spare wheel on a drop down hub. The idea was to unhitch the trailer and push it into the water, and same for retreve useing a toe rope to pull the whole rig up the sand to be hitched.

On feed back from the client, the drop down spare wheel was used the most. It also had the advantage of a spare hub and bearing + wheel on the trailer all the time.
