Breaming Adiiction

Well as a lot of you guys know, im addicted to Breaming. They fight pretty hard, eat a wide range of baits/lures (including surface as i found out today), look awesome, a very unpredictable fish and a real challenge to catch the larger models. An awesome sports fish!! read on to see what i mean ;)
Nailed this little fella on a SX40 the other day, also got absolutely smoked by a Bream of gigantic proportions, absolutely raped me... Took drag like a machine and just powered through the nastiest set of pylons...
Headed out early this morning though (real early o.O) in search of some Brumz. I tied on a surface lure the night before, hoping that there might be a chance of getting my first surface Blacky. I was talking to a bloke about surface fish and he regularly catches good Bream on topwater, trying to learn as much as i could from him. I went out at about 5:15 hoping to get that surface bite first up and then convert to cranks if that doesnt work. I flicked away at a few walls and jettys, not much happening. I came up to a nice wall and was just twitching my little scum dog. I paused it and the surface erupted! The hooks missed but my confidence sky-rocketed!
More casting followed and a few more boils and taps. I changed lures to a NW pencil with ZX hooks on the rear. I thought i might be able to convert those bumps into hook-ups with the ZX hooks plus the extra weight gave me some bonus casting distance. First cast and i was smashed straight up. A nice tailor started leaping out of the water, had no idea how it didnt snap the dyneema trailers!! But eventually i got it in and got some snaps of him.
Not long after i started casting parallel to this nice mussel covered wall, Jelly prawns were all over it. I made a long cast that landed perfectly on the edge of the wall. One twitch was all it took as something smashed it. After a short tussle i pulled him up and noticd a Bream, Stoked!!! I went to net it but it flicked itself out of the water and rolled into the yak. Happy with my first Black on topwater :D
Not far from the same wall there was an awesome looking jetty and i plugged a cast under it. I had a little tap and then let it sit there for ages. I gave a tiny little tick and then BOOM, the water just erupted underneath the lure. It was a lot heavier then the first and had some pulling power. I got him to the surface and seen the size of it, what a horse!! It was over 35, possibly pushing 40 but it had some girth, over a kilo. I started bringing him in quick and literally inches from the net he turned and pulled the hooks!!! Spewing, big surface fish gone.... But it was awesome to hook such a good fish on surface, definitely builds the confidence up for next time!! I think this picture tells the story just right ;)
A few more boils and a good run from one fish was it and then i packed it in and paddled home. Hoping tomorrow is as good as today, and hopefully get some more topwater strikes on film!!
Cheers for reading, Callum

Thanks guys! jighead -
Thanks guys!
jighead - Definitely give it a go mate, Its such an awesome and surprising style of fishing for Bream, because once you see them hit a surface lure like they do your whole perspective on them changes. I used to view Bream as an opportunistic feeder, milling around the pontoons and pylons crunching down mussles, crabs and small baitfish and prawns that stray to close. But seeing them today, they were full-blown predators, hunting down the lure and smashing it down, some of the boils and hits i got today would make a barra proud!! and sometimes they would hit it more than once, charging straight back to give it another go, its getting the hooks in that makes it challenging ;)

Good stuff ca11um. I tried surface blackies before but with minimal success. Looking at your photos & reading your story gets me thinking I might have to put in some more hours & Suss it out properly. Well done.
