Bungs

 G'day Dakka

Would help to know type / size of boat. Are they side by side or vertically placed.

Some boats have a sealed under floor area for fuel tanks / engine space. 1 bung drains that area and the other the hull. Some just have 2 bungs to drain the hull.

You may just have 2 different coloured bungs for the bling.

As for how tight, well, check the rubber seals and if they are good (replace if they are not) then just hand tight to a normal, "i dont want it to leak" tightness. If you really crank on it, or have tough hands then it can be a real bitch undoing and you have the potential to snap off the plastic tabs if they are a little bit old. I have seen it done a few times over the years with over tightning and then the tools have to come out to remove.

Red & Blue

The Red bung is for the Port side & because they don't make Green ones, the Blue is for the Starboard side.. HAHA...
seriously, I don't think it matters though I have come across bungs with slightly different threads.
Just finger tight plus GST should be ok, they have a course thread & the rubber seal holds them well.

I've had brass bungs which needed to be done up with a spanner. The plastic ones with the rubber washer just need to be finger tight though.

Red an blue bungs

Maybe the bungs have been seated in such a way that they must be placed in the appropriate opening to ensure water tightness, red port, blue std.
Just a wild guess

I thought one was a box

I thought one was a box thread and the other was a v thread or coarse thread. Something like that anyway.
