Busselton jetty

Solid session at the Busselton jetty last night. One pinky about 55 or 60 cm and a Mullaway that went to about 1.1 m. You can get a good idea of the size of the Mullaway if you happen to know how high the handrail is.

No-I reckon they were a few around and there was not a single bait fish or squid to be had. I just used an unweighted squid head

 So they do exist!

I've tried there so many times, in so many ways, in so many different weather conditions, and always come back empty handed.  Much respect to you, well done on landing them!

  I was extremely lucky. I

I was extremely lucky. I actually went into  A tackle shop and specifically bought a rod to fish for Pinkys and Mullaway because I haven’t brought one down with me. I have never fished for either of them from the jetty before so to land these on the first go was amazing. I  did meet a fellow who had caught four in the last three weeks but I think it helps to be a local because you can just run out there any time the weather turns to shit and have a crack for a couple of hours.   I was very lucky with the landing because I had bought a cheap treble gaff  which was really blunt, had sharpened it as well as I could in the time available with a file and I really struggled to get the pinky. In the end, one of the brand-new chemically sharpened hooks hooked in the gaff rope  so I basically pull the pinky out by the mouth. The Mullaway was much heavier and was easier to get with the gaff  but the gaff is still a bastard and I won’t be using one like that again.   It’s hard enough to manage the situation by yourself without a shit gaff.

Grew up fishing jetties, and never managed anything remotely that good.
