The Busso Jetty Report
Submitted by TheJettyRat on Fri, 2012-06-08 00:23
There has been rough weather over the last few days with murky waters before the sand bar and a large swell out at the end. I have been fishing for a large pinkie at the end but have had no joy over the last few days. The mulloway fishermen are out in force on the first half with reports of a few being landed. I have seen the mulla guts on the deck while on my way in late at night. Good sized squid are around along the second half of the jetty after the sand bar. Small skippy are also around on the second half , good fun on the light gear when you are bored.

We went Wednesday arvo/night
We went Wednesday arvo/night and caught nothin (other than a cold). Went right to the end.
A bloke next to us landed a seagull on a pink number 3 squid jig :)
There was heaps of guys there when we were walking back (at the first half).
Whats with all the hand lines that everyone has out? Is that what people use for Mullaway?

We must have crossed paths
We must have crossed paths then I was heading in from the end a 6pm. Seagulls were a pest that day I also landed one on a set of gangs. The handlines are for the mulloway, straight down since they like to cruise around the pilons.

Mullies with no sinker, let
Mullies with no sinker, let it float down or give it a slow retrieve. Yellowtail are also great for bait, there are plenty of them out there.

Hi snipesleher, I havn't been
Hi snipesleher, I havn't been able to get out there for the last couple of weeks so I couldn't tell you if the Pinkies are still around. The best place to go on the jetty depends on what type of fish you are after. Before I rattle on about the fish I will explain the jetty a bit better using pictures I found with Google.
This is a picture of the jetty from the beach end: Think of the jetty as having two halves
with the first havlf being before the bend and the second being after the bend.
The sand bar can also be seen crossing the bend in this picture. The water on this side of the sand bar
is shallower then the water past the sand bar out further.
This is a older picture of the sand bar at the bend:
This is a picture of the second half after the bend :
For the winter time the best place to catch squid, skippy and herring as well as yellow tail for bait is anywhere along this second half.
The squid like to hang around in the weed that can be seen in the above photo. The first 100mtrs past the bend can be a productive place if you have kids and don't want to walk too far out. Throw out a blob with around 1.5 mtr trace line with a bit of squid on a size 2 limerick hook for the herring. There is also plenty of fish that can be caught straight down near the pylons. Just tie a unweighted/very-lightly-weighted hook on the end of a handline and let it drift down for a couple of meters, about halfway to the bottom. The handline will catch herring, skippy and yellowtail. There is plenty of squid about anywhere in this second half.
The best place to drop a big line is in the first half of the jetty before the bend. This is where the mulloway swim throughout the pylons. Take the various baits that you have caught from out past the bend and sit back and play the game of patience.
Hope this explains things a bit better, sorry if there is any crap spelling.

Jetty report : Not much has
Jetty report :
Not much has changed since my last report, I have not been able to get out there much this week due to the weather making fishing the o'l girl just about imposable. Plenty of skippy still about along with herring and squid, there have also been reports of tailor being caught towards the end. I can't give any reports on mulla this week since I have not been out there long enough over the last few days to catch up with my mulla fishing mates.
