C-Map and sounders etc

What are your opinions on the C-Map cards for those using them.

I've purchased one but have yet to use it.

Is the detail "as good as advertised"?

Also have a Northstar M84 any user of them I'd also be grateful for some feedback.

This will be me moving from my B&W "hummingbird" to the Northstar (Navman).

If anyones using it with chart plotter, again, really like to hear your thoughts.

cheers

cmap arent bad, but when you

cmap arent bad, but when you go over to the navionics the difference is amazing and you will never look back, my cmap used to show the 50m contour line then the next one was the 100m line, with navionics it shows every 10m so it will show the 50,60 70 80 90 etc if you get my drift, so makes for a reference where you can look for close contour lines(showing a steeper drop off) something you would not see on a cmap.HTH

C-Map

Tue, 2009-08-18 19:38

Arrrgh, thought so... thanks guys, if anyone else has any comment keep them coming the more the better.
I got the Cmap because it was the one that went with the M84, has the engine management, gps chart plotter etc. I was a bit concerned that I was asking too much of a good thing for the price........ oh well too late now I'll have to hang with it.

Out of interest whats a reasonable navionics cost??
cheers

I've got a C Map that goes

Wed, 2009-08-19 08:53

I've got a C Map that goes from Esperance to Darwin and I like it. Only issue I saw with it was traveling up the Blackwood and it showed my position as being on land still.

Cheers
Dale

C - MAP

Wed, 2009-08-19 09:03

Kempy, Dale, Jersey, and any others,
If your using the C-Map are you using it combined with a chart plotter?
If so how well does this work?
The reason I ask is if I want to go out at night in summer, (because last summer the days were horrible -for the most part) can I rely on it for navigation to get out wide of Hillarys? Through three mile.
cheers

C-Map

Yes Shammy,as with Kempy,I would say no worries,BUT (don't you love it)as with anything electronic, their is always a chance of failure, satalites dropping out,or the bloody thing, just stopping working for no reason. But Im sure if you stick to the marked channel lights and passage eg the Centuare,if totally dark, also bear in mind the back lights of the coast as these can confuse you, keep the Centuare on your right hand (Starboard) heading south and on the left hand side (Port)coming in heading north,by a good 100/200meters and take a bearing north for the marks these all have flashing, lights (of varying pulses) outside Hillarys Marina,or come back before it gets to dark and go to the pub not Jetty's as it will cost you an arm and a leg.jersey

I'm up there but working so unable to fish...... unfortunately.

And it's not that glassy where I am, it looked like a mill pond on the pics he posted today...
