Calamari fix with a difference!

With yesterday arvo looking wind sweet i thought i'd go out a get my squid fix. Zen came out for a late arvo run and i wanted to try something a little bit different this time. That being squiding in deepwater than my normal 1-6m stuff. I decided to try out from Freo in the 16m mark over some broken ground. Found the size varied alot from small/med & large but was nice to try something dif.

The size #4.0 Yozuri Olive coloured squid jig was producing more than Zens Tsuriken Red head #3.5 but as soon as it got later/darker his was out producing my jig so it balanced up. The usual always apply, have different sizes & colours & mix it up. We ended up with our boatlimit of 30 in less than 4 hours and released smaller squid & little cuttlys. Was a great way to see out the arvo with very nice conditions and a few coldys!

squid Ryan, we've caught squid out behind Garden occassionally in 20 m but as the norm, mainly in 3-5m stuff. The river should be going off soon if not already. bought a couple Yashi jigs, beautiful looking n great colours.

question?

Wed, 2009-05-13 18:50

Is there a major difference between squid caught inshore and those caught way off-shore?

Obviously I know what squid are like in shallow in shore, but does anyone have a photo or an example of squid caught say ~19 miles off the coast?

Anyone, anyone at all?

Squid lah!

Wed, 2009-05-13 18:59

Bodie, I was using a #3 barrel sinker to a swivel and then about 2m of fluro carbon to my jig. I was expecting more wind but it dropped off heaps. The jig could get down by itself but i reckon but slow. I'm going out again soon but i'll use a small #1 this time.I prefer to squid on the mornings as i do better but i thought i'd try when the wind was down!

No monsters Soupy but i reckon by trying different areas i'll get bigger, 3 to the Kilo or maybe 2....some more calamari recon coming up!

Yeh Maxi the Swan cala are happening now and good size....the small jigs doing the damage there!

Huggy, the ones out in the deep deep are arrow ones i think!

Cheers fella's!

Wed, 2009-05-13 20:58

But I saw these calamari squid, just need the offending party to post pics - they know who they are.

And my pics are on the brag board - nothing special, but a reasonable mixed bag.

Perhaps that means the fish can see you. Some off the characters and clothing seen on this site would scare the living hell out of any fish. LOL. Esp Huggy B with his not so subtle terrorist mask!!!!!!!!

I wear a team Diawa shirt with long sleeves, but it is cream and shows every bit of Yuck that hits it. I think the camo ones would be better suited to the blood and guts.

You going in the billfish?
