Canada - Places to go?

Hello all, I am going to Canada for a 5 month working holiday from early April. We will be based around Ontario for the first 5-6 weeks hopefully working, then we have a wedding and will head across country without any set plans at the moment.
Can anyone suggest some places to go and see, things to do? Can be fishing or other touristy stuff also.
I think we are going to get tickets to the Mapleleafs home game the night after we land in Toronto to get things rolling. Should be good!

Check out Banff in Alberta. Smack bang in the middle of the rockies, amazing place. There are a few fishing guides around there too. Calgary Stampede in July?

Vancouver Island
I had a great time on Vancouver Island. Nanaimo and Victoria are both awesome spots to visit. Kayaking with orcas and other whale watching experiences. Also been to Calgary and Banff. Get yourself to a NHL game if you can, ice hockey started in Canada and they are pretty bloody passionate about it. And the girls are HOT!!!!
The best reason for doing what's right today is tomorrow.

Which way you planning on heading? It's a big country......
I left Toronto after I landed and spent most of my time working in Newfoundland or Nova Scotia. Spent a year over there.
Some pretty wild places over East.
Was heading for Labrador but the work in Newfoundland stopped me. Didn't matter as I was out in the wilds tracking Black Bear / Moose / Caribu / Artic Hare.
Didn't like the West Coast (Vancouver). Was the people I meet though.
Best city was St John's, Halifax, Montreal if you are city minded.
The beer is shite but the best is Moosehead (Newfoundland) but the Rum is killer (Newfoundland again
).
It's dead easy to hitch everywhere.
Dont be like every other Aussie traveller and hang out with Australians.
As they say 'when in Rome do as the Romans do' so get out and meet the locals.
I found the best way to travel was visit the tourist information centres or just start talking to locals (they all love us Aussies) and guide books are also shite.
Be very careful to observe any wildlife regulations / laws if you fish. They are very strong on enforcement!

Agree with SHizz - Banff is just awesome - take a day trip to Lake Louise - take a train ride through the Rockies - if you are down Vancouver way - Grouse Mountain is fnatastic for snowboarding and skiing...
