Canarfin Competition

During this week I've been working at the Canarfin competition at the weigh-ins. Thought I would give you a heads up about some of the fish being caught.

Last night had two really standout fish, a 31.2kg spanish mackerel (Gutted and Gilled) and a 4.5kg mangrove jack caught in the creeks. There has been plenty of 20kg+ macks weighed in, quite a few 8-9kg red emperor, couple of 5kg coral trout and some big tuna. There are 15 species available on the competition board and very large specimens of each category have been getting caught each day.

Going back to the Exmouth v Canarvon thread theres still plenty of good fish in this neck of the woods! A lot of big boats are camping around the islands and heading out deep, if you do come up, just don't camp ON the islands or you'll find yourself with a court date, just like a few unlucky punters found out yesterday!!

Cheers,

Adam

After last years holiday in shark bay and a new motor might have to give the islands a miss LOL

We have booked into exmouth for this year after we have seen how you all are doing up there and need to feel the action two as not to feel left out Laughing so maybe next year we will try carnavon on our way to coral bay

Got told it is a long way out to the islands but good fishing when you do get there is this true ???

These guys were well and truly warned, it was announced twice at the competition opening night.

Tonight had a 54kg yellowfin tuna weighed in and a few 7kg reds, not a hell of a lot though. Tomorrow nights weigh in is going to be a big one!

You are right Russ, these guys are doing a lot of miles for the big fish.

Garths

Fri, 2008-05-30 15:28

Just had to go up to Gnaraloo for work, stopped in at Garths rock on the way back.  Bait balls that looked a couple of meters deep getting smashed by mackies and BIG sharks.  Lots of land based ballooners south of Quobba but none fishing Garths, woulda been a hot fishing session down there!!! Oh well...

Wow! Sounds fantastic Adam - great spot Garths - awesome platform - can't believe no one was fishing it. No rod in the back? Tongue out
