Catalina 4000 rod match
Hello,
Been stalking forum for years but just made an account.
Been fishing for a long time but never tried Jigging.
Now i can afford it i want to set up a nice combo for demersal jigging.
Don't own a boat but hoping to learn on mates when i can and taking advantage ofdeckying opportunities.
I will be fishing in >80m and running PE2 on a Catalina 4000.
I've searched the forum and JM Fallings Ul and 3 Kings UL come up alot, aswell as Magic Eye Torque. Are there other smaller brands that are better but don't get the same press? Happy to spend up to 700.
What kind of action are you looking for in a demersal rod? Also I've heard JM lacks butt power and folds to the handle... Is that an issue for jigging? From what i gather you dont want too fast an action..
Cheers for any advice

Look at the catalina and saltiga 62S pe2/3 rods would be a perfect rod for that reel. Very popular demersal rod.

Saltiga 62s
Saltiga 62s perfectly matched rod to the Catalina 4000. This is the exact combo I use and have nailed 20kg dhuies without a problem. Check out in videos bout a year ago, it's called biggest dhuie ever and on jig you can see the combo in action

Geez, dont get too excited! Maybe you get complacent after jiggin up the big boys on a regular basis. Cant wait to load my 62s on a big doo and some sambos. Picked mine up at a recent BW EFYS and save heaps, Tackle HQ may have them a bit cheaper this weekend with the sale
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Gonna go check out tackle
Gonna go check out tackle hq. Is there big difference between salty and Catalina rods? Are they preferred for demersals because they have slower action?

Personal preference bud
Just hang on to the rod and get them to load it up for you. You will know pretty quickly weather you like it or not

Price would be the diff...
The Catalina rods are good I have a Nabura 67s which suits top water and a 3000, I had a Branzino on that outfit and like it...the guides and seats are upgrades with Titanium K guides and alloy components in the seat on the Saltiga range-not entirely sure about the guides on the Cat but I know the blank is HVF and the Saltiga has their X tourque construction.
Catalina are good for the price but forking out 700 bucks on a jig rod straight off the bat is pretty extreme imo- then again cant really talk myself being a junkie like the rest of ya's...
