can't we keep this shit for GENERAL DISCUSSION/? Where it belongs. Don't care who you are slaggingoff/whether they deserve it or not/what fucking club they play for, or even if its non-football--keep it for GENERAL DISCUSSION, this sub-forum is FISHING DISCUSSION. Yes, I was shouting, and now I'll get flamed for bringing this up again. Do I need to explain to those slow on the uptake on how sub-forums within forums work? Bring it on, I won't even bother to read the replies. You wouldn't get away with this on some forums, it'll get moved. . Some have a section called The Bilge, or The Basement, right down the bottom where stuff like this, any discussion of religion, race, or sport, belongs. If you have ever seen good forums destroyed by bullshit posting of irrelevant crap, as I have, you'd understand. If you value this forum, keep your posts in whatever sub-forum it is relevant to. Or, even better, Facebook, shitposting central.
Like WAFisherman did, ironically created from disaffected members from here who wanted no moderation.
Which then collapsed due to no moderation, hopefully the lessons are learnt Must admit I've been drifting away from FW a bit for a number of reasons and there seems to be a much smaller proportion of actual fishing and boating stuff to footy/cricket. That in itself doesnt bother me at all, but it would be good to keep it apart I guess
To be honest though Im probably happier that the trollers have either gone or have pulled in a bit.
yep I totally agree with you ranmar, what used to be a good fishing forum has turned into a ghost town because of lack of moderation and a small number of dickheads.
think it is too late to resurrect fishwrecked into the FISHING forum it once was.
I feel sure there must be other forums/pages for this type of stuff that is not at least connected to fishing and it would be better place to using another site.
Just my view on the matter.
lets keep it that way, keep stuff where it belongs.
BTW, I did scroll past the original Willie Rioli post, I just let it go, then another off-topic pops up straight away. --let it go, and you might as well forget about it. Are people either
A) ignorant of how the forum/sub forum thing works, or
b) Think they won't get enough exposure in General Discussion, so they post in here?
Rob H gave just one local example of how forums have spiralled down and died, there have been others. And the blokes that kill them won't be the people asking other people to just follow the forum classifications sometimes people make genuine mistakes, sometimes its not.
So your happy to post in general discussion about someones boat and not carry on like a flog when it clearly should be in the boating section...... HIPOCRACY AT IT'S BEST....oops I'm yelling.
or even when I have put my posts up in the correct section asking for peoples oppinion I get accused of already making my opinion before posting when that certainly wasn't the case by the same group of people as this instance if you keep picking on people for posting anything they will stop posting. When this happens the site sponsors will send their money to a site that actually gets posts. Pretty simple really
Not sure who the "same group of people as this instance" is or whether I am included in that. But while I have no problem at all with the footy threads, it is fishing content that brings new people to the site.
Without new fishing content and new members who contribute fishing/boating content it will stagnate (some think it already is?)
Ranmar has provided alot of quality content while he has been a member here, and to my mind that gives some leeway to have a say.
FW would be way worse off without him than 6 of those who only ask questions or help but never offer help or post pictures.
That isnt a criticism of those people, just pointing to forum value lies.
Rob,This isn't about forum values and the contribution an individual makes to the forum, Ramnar had his rant because apparently people where posting in the wrong section, but as I have pointed out he is happy to put up comments in other articles even when they are in the wrong section but doesn't carry on about that, maybe he is having a bad day again, should go fishing and get over it.
General Discussion can have anything in it, but if you want people to see your write up about a boat build etc its better in that section.
Fishing Discussion, narrows the focus somewhat, and the 3rd or 4th Willie Rioli thread/joke probably falls outside that.
The site itself has a major problem in that posting a pic in a comment on someone elses thread is a major pain in the ass (especially since Photobuckets saga) which forces people to start new threads.
What is so hard about using General Discussion for General Discussion? Your comment about "should go fishing and get over it" could well be better directed toward those who forget it is a fishing forum and are so consumed in footy finals that fishos should get out of the way-on a fishing forum...
It'd be easy to mistake that question for sarcasm Bill, until I realised that you have never intentionally started a thread in any section except for
footy/cricket (which every week seems to be a race to beat Frosty haha)
asking for assistance with or selling something
After being a member for 10 years with 1000 posts
So I thought it deserves a proper answer (thought there is no fixed idea beside common sense)
I thought "maybe noone has ever told him" but oddly you seem to have always posted the footy stuff in the General section, and evidently know also where it should go as you put up the Rioli one in Fishing with
"Thought I'd just put it in this Forum as well"...
Boating, launching, trailers, maybe ramps as far as it pertains to boating, outboards, fuel, electronics, fixing anything to do with ya boat, buying a boat.
All the subsections overlap a bit, but probably jokes and memes about potentially suicidal indigenous football players caught in the headlights only fall into one really.
The tone of the whole discussion here, and large proportion who actively say otherwise indicates the Forum is probably at a tipping point which is a great pity as it neednt be that way.
A footy/cricket section, or members who cared enough to either moderate, educate or just make the effort to chuck it in the right spot would be so easy.
A great example of a forum that is tightly run, is LCOOL.
You have a scroll down the fishing section and tell me how many of the posts are in the wrong section Rob and not one rant about that from ranmar or anyone else for that matter. Do a lot of fishing and like a fair few on this site will pm someone when I can give them information that is relevant to my area Who gives a shit about post count only you by the looks. And yes lcool is a well run site do you need my login name to check my posts there?
I understand ranmsr has been a member for a long time and see that we all enjoy his input but if he drives new members away there is no future. As alresdy stated maybe a PM could have made less waves. I still think public forums should seek more public.
Not many or any "new members" on this thread that I can see. Probably more annoying, the subject line has no indication that it either Rioli, or non fishing.
there is a reason for that . They get shut down and belittled not everyone has thick skin like me and doesn't mind what other people think of them. Its sad that there are no teenagers on here anymore
You are right and we did have an extra couple of admins a while back but don't think they're on the forum anymore. Probably got fed up with all us plebs posting in the wrong sections lol.
Plenty of reasons forums die, including members treating others like shit or not valuing others opinions/insights. People see that and then think twice about posting, particularly fishing reports if they're not catching sea monsters. Sadly, the number of fishing reports has been in constant decline.
This place is pretty good, most of the time we self moderate.
IMO, the majority of times things get posted in the wrong place is people just forget to check the right forum, I reckon Livewire made a genuine mistake. Probably could have been handled via a PM but we're all adults here, and we make our own choices.
I've said some things I regret and made a conscious choice to no longer start forum arguments, I'm actually here for enjoyment and a bit of comradeship.
To be honest, I'm probably gonna pull back on the footy posts as well, I reckon that's all becoming a bit petty with no winners anyway. We just keep going around in circles trying to one up each other and it's all a bit sad, besides its not like I'm actually on the field playing the game, I'm just a nuffie Pies fan.
The longevity of this forum is key indicator about how things generally are, long may it continue.
Nicely written mate and on the money as usual. It's been a long footy season ans glad it's almost over so I can concentrate on getting the fishing gear in order. Cray pots were brought home today in a state and need lots of tlc, new boat trailer is on the go and will put some pics up of my shit welding when it's doen ;)
All well said Big John I know Adam has had a new job that probably takes up much of his time, it'd probably be beneficial to appoint a couple of admins
Yes mate a few times late last year. A few teething problems with getting it to trim right etc. Changed the prop out and that made a big difference. I love the walkaround deck space. Can have rods spaced out nicely.
Talk about a unexpected reaction. The post I shared was something I got a laugh out of. THAT'S IT! as for posting it in the wrong forum !!! ok I'll take the criticism, but f-ck me if some people need to get on there high horse and rant on like a Donald Trump then I'm over my head and happy to step back. Now ranmar if you directed your replay to me, some advice to you, tone it down a bit and your point would be better received. Thanks
I agree with you Ranmar850. I hate trolls. They appear to raise their heads in a lot of forums. However, I don't want to be too precious because there is one off topic posted every Friday which most people, including me, enjoy.
It's done correctly most the time, when not either by mistake or the person is unaware. This is where a mod usually steps in and reminds people of the issue etc.
I don't reckon it's good form to crucify someone for making a simple error, especially when youi're not a mod.
i apologise to everyone for standing up to trolls it has obviously put this site into ghost town but i firmly believe ranmar could have easily let it ride. No big deal.
I only look at the 'Latest Content' tab, so I've been unaware of all you Maddog Gangsters posting in the wrong section. You lot have a total social disregard apparently! Haha
But I take exception to Billcollectors assertion that I am hypocritical for replying to Boating stuff posted in General Discussion. If you can't see the differenece between replying to a serious discussion that someone has posted in the wrong place, and deliberately shitposting random stuff where you think it will be seen quicker, you need to think about it some more. If you recall, the first time I did this was when someone actually said something along the lines of " I know this isn't where you post this, but I'll do it anyway." That's what originally got me arced up, attention-seekers deliberately posting where they think it will get seen more. To re-iterate, someone posted one in the (really) wrong place, I just scroll past. Then another one pops up right after it. Possible trend, anyone?
I actually had a look at this forum some years before I became active, and there was one of these stupid "effin pingers" threads going. Some really dumb statements being made, accusations flying around--I just left, generally a really low standard, or so it appeared. Couldn't be arsed following it. Came back a few years later for another look. Seemed to be going OK, I learnt to stay out of General Discussion, only venturing in to see if someone had posted something re fishing or boating in the wrong place. I've always liked helping people if I can, still do, and live my my number one internet rule-Don't say anything on the net you wouldn't say to their face.
So, now that this discussion has probably put people off who came in here looking for Fishing, and can get their fill of the other crap through Facebook, and were looking, perhaps from a break from that, are we done? I know I am.
I am on a gun and motorbike and this forum and this is the most relevant to topic of the 3.On the gun one %50 is political outrage that the system will not let them have machine guns because they are Law Abiding Firearm Owners apparently and they love bashing W.A. The ranges I go to everyone seems to think our firearm laws are fine,A lot of anti gun links get posted to get a reaction and the spelling by some posters is poor. There is always 2-3 personal fights going on so this issue is no biggy realy. It would be good if there was a seperate sport section but we have the choice to not open the thread

I only look at the 'Latest Content' tab, so I've been unaware of all you Maddog Gangsters posting in the wrong section. You lot have a total social disregard apparently! Haha

Read it all, took it on board, agree with some
But I take exception to Billcollectors assertion that I am hypocritical for replying to Boating stuff posted in General Discussion.
I know I am.

forum
I am on a gun and motorbike and this forum and this is the most relevant to topic of the 3.On the gun one %50 is political outrage that the system will not let them have machine guns because they are Law Abiding Firearm Owners apparently and they love bashing W.A. The ranges I go to everyone seems to think our firearm laws are fine,A lot of anti gun links get posted to get a reaction and the spelling by some posters is poor. There is always 2-3 personal fights going on so this issue is no biggy realy. It would be good if there was a seperate sport section but we have the choice to not open the thread
just do it.
