Cockburn Cement Jetty Help
Submitted by buschy on Tue, 2013-10-29 19:50
Hit up the cement jetty today for the first time. Got honked by the dredger....didn't think he was coming in that close!!!
Just wandering if anyone fishes around there fairly regularly - what to expect. Got a few herring and small tarwhine today. I assume whiting will be thick in summer. Anything bigger turn up there? Should I fish in the hole or further up the beach?
Thanks
Buschy :-)

The "Volvox Anglia" will
The "Volvox Anglia" will come back to the jetty several times a day and dump its load right next to the jetty !!!
I've never fished close to it personally, but I used to drop crab nets just to the west of it and still got honked !! Now I just stay clear of the big barstard ... There are periods when the pumping station or vessel is shutdown for maintenance and you can get closer but you just have to be watching and notice when there is no activity going on ..
also I think there might be some law/ruling against fishing in "navigable waters" or some thing like that.

Thanks Luke
I was just wading out and fishing in the hole where the VA drops it's load. Easy enough to move as soon as it starts to head in - which only seems to be every couple of hours. Would have thought that law would only apply to boating - not to LB fishing ;-) There are I guess safety implications, but as long as I pay due respect to the vessel and get out of the water early, I doubt they will give a rats. Question now is to figure out whether it is worth fishing....

My hubbie
used to free dive (while being towed by his 1st wife) to the left of the jetty to the point for big blue mana crabs about 30yrs ago, not now, all the sea grass is gone and the silt from them dumping yuck.
